Couture Quote of the Day!

From Brawl Sports regarding Randy Couture's attempt to arrange a co-promotion fight (UFC & M-1 Global) between Fedor Emelianenko and Couture:

Here's what everyone's MMA hero said:

"We got an official offer from M-1 to the UFC to do a co-promotion for the Couture-Emelianenko fight, and they (UFC) rejected that offer. Really, the only thing standing in the way for that fight right now is Dana and the UFC. Obviously, M-1 is happy to do a co-promotion like that. It only serves to help them. I think the UFC is looking at it the other way, and it's like why do we want to help out another organization? The fans want to see that fight. At some point, you have to put that first."

Hey, Randy is interested in putting the fans first everyone!!!!

Oh, but that still means that Randy quit the UFC and still holds the Heavyweight belt which will not be contested for ohhhhh.... another year!

Thanks for looking out for the MMA/UFC fans Randy, MY hero!

  1. Seems funny that the UFC was willing to work out a deal to have Liddell and Silva fight but are now "the only thing standing in the way" of this fight. Maybe if you would have stuck by the company that made you they would be a little more cooperative in trying to secure your future with this huge pay day. What really does the UFC have to gain from this fight? If Couture loses they lose their champ and promote a rival organization and if he wins well he's already turned his back on them and refused to fight anyone else so they still have no champ. Looks like the only one to benefit is Couture...oh and the fans of course 'cause that's what its really all about.

  2. Right on Riley!

Couture would have a better bargaining position is he had stayed with the UFC... negotiated a fight with Fedor IF he beat Nogueira for a "Non-title, co-promotion fight" that would not bare any risk for either organization yet satisfy the fans bloodlust with this fantasy fight becoming reality.

  3. Well said! Couture is borderline delusional for thinking this is going to happen.

I just don't understand your line about the Heavyweight belt not being contested for another year? Big Tim versus Big Nog?

  4. The UFC has yet to recognize Randy Couture as one who has left the Heavyweight title vacant despite Randy's public declaration that he has resigned from the UFC indefinitely.

The belt belongs to Randy until the UFC decides to make the Nogueria/Sylvia fight and interim title fight or simply make it a fight for the vacant title.

Randy's contract supposedly expires in October 2008 therefore, the Heavyweight crown will remain in limbo until then again, unless the UFC steps in and does the right thing... whatever that may be.

The UFC has not officially declared the UFC 81:Boiling Point fight between Nogueira and Sylvia as a title fight... yet which they should be doing.

In fact, all we know is that Tim Sylvia has signed to fight at UFC 81. No official word on Nogueira yet however, the speculation is that both will fight each other on that card.

    It's a fine mess really!
