MMA Pic of the Day - War Machine & Shamrock

It seems our favorite TUF 6 Finale fighter got himself into a little trouble with the law prior to the Spike TV Ultimate Fighter 6 Finale fight against "J-Roc" Jared Rollins.

According to The San Diego Union-Tribune, Jon "War Machine" Koppenhaver was charged with felony assault and battery after allegedly choking and hitting a man unconscious outside San Diego's Undisputed fitness and training center on September 2, 2007.

"The preliminary hearing was expected to continue later Thursday. If the case goes to trial and Koppenhaver is convicted, he faces a maximum penalty of seven years in prison, said prosecutor David Williams."

Unfortunate for sure but somehow I'm confident that the dude who got choked and laid out looked nothing like Ken Shamrock(ed) in the Lion's Den picture above.

If you missed the TUF 6 Finale fight of the night, click here then scroll down past the TUF 6 Finale fighter paydays... shit, now War Machine's gonna have to use most, if not all of the after tax $16,000 he earned for the fight to pay his lawyers to defend him to keep him from major pounding in the ass prison.

Let's hope that War doesn't have to do any time 'cause I'd pay to see him choke someone out.

UPDATE: From The San Diego Union-Tribune states that War Machine pleaded guilty to the assault charge and the Judge showed some real compassion for War... I mean for Jon:

"Judge Frank Brown said the change in plea could result in a misdemeanor punishment. Zatkow told the court he thought a reduced punishment was OK because he believed a felony conviction would destroy Koppenhaver's career.

“I'm not interested in destroying somebody's life,” Zatkow said, noting that fighting should stay in the ring.

Koppenhaver is scheduled to be sentenced Feb. 7 at 1:30 p.m. "

  1. Warmachine pleaded guilty to the felony assault, as part of the plea the battery charges were dropped. The plantiff stated he was"OK with a reduced sentence because he didn't want to ruin anyones life". Besides who wants to sue a guy who doesn't have a job.
What's with these young fighter's don't they know your supposed to assault people on Youtube first then get in to MMA? Always doing things backasswards.
