Former UFC light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz recently confirmed with The Fight Network that his next opponent will be undefeated Brazilian tactician Lyoto Machida. The bout is expected to take place on the May 24 card in Las Vegas.
Ortiz’s last appearance in the cage ended in a draw with TUF 2 winner Rashad Evans. Since then, he’s been seeing success outside of the cage on the celebrity edition of Donald Trump’s reality show “The Apprentice”.
Machida’s stock rose dramatically in 2007 as he quickly went from “that guy who beat Franklin” to a legitimate title threat and a favorite of hardcore fans. He won all four of his fights in the UFC last year, with three impressive unanimous decisions and a dominating submission victory over Rameau Thierry Sokodjou on New Year’s Eve. Ortiz expressed his disdain regarding both the match-up and his current situation with the UFC. “I was expecting a bigger fight. I think the fans were expecting a bigger fight,” he told The Fight Network. “I got pressed into it, and all of a sudden, it’s all over the Internet that Tito Ortiz won’t fight Machida. I’m just looking to get my final fight over with the UFC.”
Ortiz, who turns 33 this week, has had a strained relationship with UFC president Dana White for years, and Spike TV even aired a special documentary - entitled “Bad Blood: Dana White vs. Tito Ortiz” - on the boxing bout between them that never happened. Apparently, Tito has decided to finish his contract without renewal.
“UFC is caring so much about the brand itself,” said Ortiz. “They could care less about the fighters. Fighters are a dime a dozen. They’ll keep coming. Dana is really out for himself and the company. He doesn’t give a s--t about the fighters.”
The UFC doesn't care about the fighters...and I'm sure that Tito Ortiz cares about anything other than himself! Do these idiots hear themselves?
