Matt Serra Quote about GSP - "Fucking Frenchie"

Here's a translated excerpt from www.ultimefanatic.com about GSP's reaction to Matt Serra's lip about him.

"Georges added, concerning Serra, that he had lost all respect for him the day Serra, even though he was right in feeling insulted by GSP's comments following his defeat, went too far by transforming a simple rivalry between two fighters into a racial incident, calling GSP a "Fucking Frenchie". He will make it a personal business of letting his fists talk in the Octogon when the time comes to answer his opponent, because he does not wish to get into public verbal wars with him."

I've been to Hull, Quebec which is across the pond from Ottawa, Ontario and I have to say that anglophone vs. francophone hate is very real so GSP doesn't need any more motivation to beat Serra down to reclaim his Welterweight belt in his backyard of Montreal, Quebec for UFC 84 - April 19, 2008.

I feel sorry for Matt however, some need to learn life lessons the hard way.

  1. I don't know why people are assuming that GSP is going to walk through Serra. Did anyone actually watch that fight? Listen to the commentary? It was NOT a lucky punch. Serra controlled that fight, picked his punches and knocked GSP (of whom I am a huge fan!) on his ass.

Serra shoots off at the mouth but so what? Remember what sport these guys are involved in. No room for the sensitive types.

  2. Trash talking is part of the sport, it sometimes can even be good for it, but you can't just throw out racial slurs. What if a non-Black fighter called Rampage the N-word? That would be okay?

  3. Racial slur? "French" is not a race but rather a nationality which is an important distinction.

The only reason that GSP is sensitive about this is the Anglo-Franco tension in Canada which the rest of the world finds bewildering.

  4. "Frenchie" is nowhere near as bad the N-word, but it's not unlike calling an Asian person a "Chink", or a Brown person a "Paki". It's just not great for the sport when one of its champions spews this stuff out of his mouth.
