Randy Couture Next Human Blanket?

I was reading Brawl Sports latest entry about Randy's friendship with Tim Sylvia "messing" with Tim's mind and a quote from Randy shot out at me that I wanted to share:

"I can certainly see where the best chance is for taking him down. It's not the open shot that Ricco (Rodriguez) and Jeff Monson and several of the other guys have tried. You need to get to Tim's body and clinch with him, get inside, not stand out in range and try to take him down. I think my mobility and wrestling technique will allow me to take him down."

Now, we all know that Randy has framed his comeback into the octagon as a pledge to the fans to see an exciting Heavyweight fight again because Randy feels that Tim doesn't give the fans what they paid for.

Read the quote again and please let me know if Randy has actually declared himself the newest Heavyweight human blanket. If so, doesn't that contradict what he has been saying to UFC fans from the start?

Randy Couture did say he was going to bring excitement back to the Heavyweight division or was I hearing and reading about someone else?

Are we going to see a fight or a takedown contest?

Heath Herring said it best at Ultimate Fight Night 8 after his loss to Jake O'Brien when he said he wasn't aware this was a wrestling contest. I am not defending Heath for his poor performance by any means but, come on!

Here is another piece from Brawl Sports on Randy's return:

"There's also nothing written in stone that says Couture must swing and grapple as a heavyweight in the four-pack. He hasn't ruled out dropping down to light heavy, if his foray against Sylvia goes south."

So Randy is not committed to staying in the Heavyweight ranks? Really, the best fight for Randy to have is with Chuck Liddell. They fought three times with Liddell winning the last two matches.

From reading the article, I got the impression that Randy isn't projecting much confidence in his return against the big man or maybe Randy is just a humble guy. I will go with the latter for the moment because I don't want to feel like I've been played by UFC marketing when this fight goes down.

What also amazes me is hearing Dana White say he wouldn't consider Wanderlei Silva vs. Chuck Liddell because Wandy lost two fights in a row by knockout. Hey Dana, the same thing happened to Randy Couture (Mike Van Arsdale victory doesn't count in my book) yet you give him a year off only to return to a title fight.

I hope that Randy's takedown strategy is the precursor to a submission attempt. I hope and so do many people who have contributed to the MMA Fever Heavyweight Championship poll just below.

Please Randy, bring the pain, bring the pain... instead of the blanket.

Nick Diaz Post Fight Interview

Nick Diaz is a guilty pleasure for quite a few MMA fans when he is letting his punches loose in the ring or doing the same with his mouth outside the ring. Nick is great at giving a REAL interview and not some jumbled catch phrases that some other fighters give. Nick has passion and it comes through very, very clearly in this video. Nick also shows his battle wounds on his face and they are not very pretty.

This is Nick Diaz's Pride 33 post fight interview:

Pride 33 Wrap-Up

Well, it's time to officially put Pride 33 to bed. Overall, the reception of Pride by UFC fans was surprisingly overwhelming. From the forums and the dedicated UFC sites that I visited, most found the Pride 33 event to be very exciting with lots of action in the fights.

One person commented by saying that is was nice to pay for a pay per view event and actually get to see all of the fights on the fight card. Novel idea for UFC don't you think? Dana, are you listening?

It was nice to see the fans appreciating MMA "the sport" while forgetting the MMA "organizations" for a moment in time. You know, the Pride vs. UFC debate, East coast/West coast, Tupac & Biggie... that shyte doesn't matter, it's great fights that matter and they happen in hundreds of MMA organizations around the globe so let's evolve as fans of MMA at the same pace as the sport evolves.

One last congratulations to Dan Henderson for becoming the first person to hold two belts (Welterweight & Middleweight) simultaneously for a major MMA organization. I know UFC fighters GSP, Matt Hughes and Chuck Liddell aspire to what Dan Henderson has accomplished so this will be one helluva year for MMA.

Anyway, I'm going to close off Pride 33 coverage with a bunch of Pride 33 links I posted recently all on one page, this page, just bit down below. Really, I'm a fan of my own site so selfishly, I wanted this for my own personal reference and I hope you enjoy it too. I suppose you could be smarter than me and type in Pride 33 in the search box at the top left of the page too.

Please be patient while the video buffers and in case you didn't know, right click on the video screen to choose 'Go Full Screen'. You can't beat it!

Pride 33 Post Press Conference

Fighters and organizers are interviewed following the Pride 33 event with Jerry Millen, Pride FC U.S. promoter. Interviews with Dream Stage Entertainment & Pride FC President, Nobuyuki Sakakibara questioned about whether Pride is for sale and whether there will be a rematch between Gomi and Diaz and Shogun Rua wanting Hendo's new belt.

All in all, the Pride 33 post press conference seemed to be a very somber one as it appears that most in attendance, including the fans, did not expect the outcome of some of their key match-ups in particular, Lil Nog, Wanderlei and Takanori Gomi.

Pride just had its prized fighters in Gomi, Nogueira and Wanderlei Silva BEATEN on foreign soil. This is the worst possible outcome for this famed MMA organization and now they have to lick their wounds, regroup and try to come back to the U.S. again on April 28 in Las Vegas. This isn't any different than the UFC going to Japan and witnessing Sean Sherk and Chuck Liddell losing away from home.

UFC 68 Preview Video

I know, we have to wait 6 whole days for another massive, MASSIVE! (Shameless Ali G reference)

Listen to Dana White dissing his Heavyweight, Middleweight and Welterweight champions... listen to his BS excuses for why Matt Hughes and Rich Franklin lost their last bouts... what an ass clown and a tool!

Dana White earns the dishonorable distinction of being, "The Tool of the Day"

Sergei Kharitonov vs. Michael Russow Pride 33 Video

Sergei Kharitonov defeats Michael Russow by submission (Armbar) in round 1 (3:46) at Pride 33.

Russow was pissed at the stoppage however, the video clip captures him tapping Kharitonov 's thigh like he had Britney Spears' song, "Hit me baby one more time" playing in his head :)

Dan Henderson Owns Pride

Congratulations Dan!

You've just become the first ever MMA fighter to hold belts in two weight divisions at the same time in a major MMA organization. The first and only one!

You now own two very prestigious championship belts and I am sure you can expect a bald dude from the UFC calling you up to bring you over to the UFC. We would all love to see you there!

What you've done is incredible, it's like fighting Anderson Silva, kicking his ass and stealing his belt then moving on to waste Chuck Liddell and snatch his belt from his waist too. All in just over a year!

So, if Pride FC is in fact for sale, the keys to the shop now belong to Dan Henderson. Can't you just picture Dana White salivating right about now?

Nick Diaz Interview after Pride 33 Weigh-In

Nick Diaz talks candidly about his upcoming bout tonight with Pride FC Lightweight Champion, Takanori "The Fireball Kid" Gomi.

Pride 33 Betting Lines

Fighters with minus ratings are the favorite. For instance, -275 for Wanderlei Silva means that I have to pay $275 to win $100 if he wins. Similarly, if I place a $100 bet on the underdog, Hendo (+215) to win and he does come through, I would win $215.

There are some decent chances to bank on a few fights here:

Wanderlei Silva -275 vs. Dan Henderson +215

Mauricio Shogun -400 vs. Alistair Overeem +300

Takanori Gomi -360 vs. Nick Diaz +280

Kazuo Misaki -350 vs. Frank Trigg +275

Antonio Rogerio Nogueira -2500 vs. Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou +1250

Joachim Hansen -850 vs. Jason Ireland +550

Hayato Sakurai -800 vs. Mac Danzig +500

Sergei Kharitonov -450 vs. Michael Russow +350

Joe Riggs - MySpace Poet?

The Diego Sanchez MySpace saga continues to develop as a tool used to trash talk fighters. Here is a recent post by who appears to Joe "Diesel" Riggs on Diego Sanchez' MySpace page left late last night in reference to the Diaz/Gomi Pride 33 weigh-in that occurred yesterday.

And just for a kick
He might snapshot your dick

Then you look to your right
And realize you are in his sight

Amazing Takedown... What an ANIMAL!

Dudes, when you're waiting on an MMA event, pretty much anything remotely related to MMA will get yer juices flowin'. Just a few more hours for Pride 33 to rev you back in gear so in the meantime, watch these animals do what they do best.

This one reminds me of Rashad Evans pawing at Sean Salmon before the kick heard 'round the world happened. Maybe Sean should have done what this animal did.

Ultimate Fighting is a Pussy Cat Sport

This one still gets me every time!

What MMA is Not...

This guy is an ass clown and the Tool of the Day!

Jerry Millen: "Dana White, Put up or Shut up!"

Jerry <span class=

These were the words used by Pride USA producer Jerry Millen when interviewing Wanderlei Silva in front of a crowd in Las Vegas, Nevada outside of the Thomas & Mack Center for pre-fight festivities with Pride fans awaiting the Pride 33 event happening tomorrow.

Wanderlei, in a diplomatic fashion said he didn't know what the problem is and Jerry Millen said, "We know what the problem is, Dana White... two words, Dana White. I'm calling out Dana White myself. Put up Dana or shut up."

"You guys tell Dana White that Jerry Millen said 'put up or shut up'."

I wrote about this earlier in a post titled,

Who Cares about a Rampage Vs. Chuck Liddell Rematch?

Good to see others supporting my claim that Dana White is ducking the big fights against his PPV Champions. Dana is doing his best to look out for the UFC's bottom line at the expense of its fans.

It's all about, "Money, money, money, M-O-N-E-Y!"

The Count Recants...

Michael "The Count" Bisping, UFC fighter and new UFC columnist caught some heat with some of his remarks about Quinton "Rampage" Jackson's debut fight at UFC 67. The Count said in his first column about Rampage's debut:

"JACKSON FIVE (OUT OF TEN)

The second time I was out in Vegas was during UFC 67 weekend. I always enjoy
sitting at Octagon-side and watching the fights and I really enjoyed the event.

After fighting on two live UFC shows now, the TUF finals last summer and now an actual PPV card, it has finally sunk in that I am a proper UFC fighter now, but I'm still a big UFC fan at heart, too.

But even though I enjoyed myself and the fights, I switched out of "fan mode" when Quinton Jackson made his Octagon debut.

Because he's in the same division as me, I took a very close interest in Jackson's win over Marvin Eastman. Because of his big win over Chuck Liddell in Japan a couple of years back, Jackson's come to the UFC with this massive reputation but, to be honest, I've got to say I wasn't that impressed.

I'd probably give Jackson five out of 10 on his performance, if you forgive the pun.

Even allowing for the fact that Eastman is a very underrated fighter, I didn't think Rampage looked like this killer who has put the entire division on red alert.

Jackson said he was nervous and I am sure he was – and maybe he'll show more of himself next time. I hope he does because I want my division to be the most exciting one in the UFC.

But like I said after my last fight, everyone in the 205lbs division (or 14stone 9lbs in English money) better watch their backs because I've not come this far just to make up the numbers in the UFC light heavyweight division."

Here is the response from Bisping recanting his UFC 67 post fight thoughts:

"JACKSON FANS ON THE RAMPAGE

Just want to clear something up from last week’s column because I’ve seen a lot of feedback on various forums about what I said about Quinton Jackson’s first fight in the UFC.

When I said I’d give him 5 out of 10 for his fight against Marvin Eastman - I wasn’t dissing Rampage at all. He’s a great fighter and a massive addition to the UFC. All I was saying was that he was below par – by his own standards, obviously - in his UFC debut at UFC 67.

And if you remember, Rampage himself said pretty much the same thing after the fight, too."

MMA Fever can smell a match between The Count and Rampage sometime in the not so distant future, fo show!

Bloody hell man!

U-FCUK?

I had a thought... I don't get that many so I 'thought' I would share with everyone.

How long would it take for someone to get crafty and start selling T-shirts in and around the Manchester M.E.N Arena for UFC 70 on April 21 in the United Kingdom with the following print:

Maybe the UFC could partner up with French Connection U.K. (FCUK)

Anyway, it was just a thought... and now it's gone.

Chuck Liddell Wants Cro Cop & Fedor

What?

I saw a thread at Sherdog Forums that pointed out that Chuck Liddell was on the Bubba Show (Sirius satellite radio broadcast show) saying that he wants to fight Cro Cop and Fedor Emilianenko.

What?

Really, you have to listen for yourself... it's pure audio (click the volume slider) - no video:

What?

Chuck states that he wants Cro Cop first, then Rampage and Wanderlei Silva then finishing up with Fedor.

What?

Seriously, I am a huge Chuck Liddell fan. I like his sprawl and brawl approach and heavy hands and strictly business, no hype style. What you see is what you'll get and you'll be marked for life when he's done with you... in the Light Heavyweight division!

Let's be clear, Chuck is a huge 205 Lb man in his weight class. It wouldn't be difficult at all for Chuck to fight Heavyweights however, he just said he wants to fight the number 1 & number 2 Heavyweights in the world in Fedor & Cro Cop.

Chuck, I know you whooped Tito's bitchy little ass and you dropped Babalu, again, however, I think you are biting off more than your 37 year old frame can handle. Please don't become the next Randy Couture who you also KO'd twice in the last two meetings.

Is that it Chuck? Are you inspired by Randy's return to the octagon in the Heavyweight division and think you can dominate the best in the world there too?

I'll give you wins against Wandy and Rampage, that's a given, but Fedor and Cro Cop?

Chuck, you and everyone else knows it takes one punch to win. If you fight Cro Cop, I fear that he will left kick your signature Mohawk off your skull, have it fly into the air and land between Jenna Jameson's lap... as if most haven't seen what's between Jenna's lap... Tito of course! What were you thinking? ;)

Fedor feels no pain. Fedor has NEVER been knocked out. He has been rocked ONCE, only to come back and win the fight. Fedor is the reigning Pride FC Heavyweight Champion who has never lost a Pride bout... EVER, and that includes his decision win against Cro Cop!

Hey Chuck, I like you right where you are as the most dominant Light Heavyweight Champion in the UFC. Please stay right where you are.

Bob Sapp to Fight a Pikey at Cage Rage 21

On February 10, 2007 it was announced by the United Kingdom's Cage Rage promotion - the biggest MMA group in Europe - that Bob Sapp would appear on its Cage Rage 21 event on April 21, facing Robert "Buzz" Berry.

The move is partly a retaliatory one, as the UFC had chosen to run its first British show in years that same night at the Manchester Evening News Arena, headlined by Mirko Cro Cop, Tito Ortiz and British star (and one-time Cage Rage competitor) Michael Bisping.

Though Cage Rage promoter Andy Geer said that the UFC show would not affect ticket sales for CR21, the signing of Sapp was a clear sign that the company knew it would need a superstar draw in order to successfully compete with the American promotion.

Anything with Bob Sapp is usually good for a laugh so I've included a couple of video clips with "The Beast" Bob Sapp:

Here is the Cage Rage 21 - Judgement Day - promotional trailer.

Bob Sapp Vs. Mirko Cro Cop

Bob Sapp being Bob Sapp in a Japanese commercial:

Battle of the Toms - Cage Rage 20 Video Highlight

This one is quick and it comes from Cage Rage 20 which went down February 10, 2007. This fight is with Tom Blackledge vs. Tom Howard. So how did the Toms do? It took only 40 seconds worth in the first round by a surprise high kick to Tom's cranium. I am sure he felt that one in the morning. Which Tom? Does it really matter? If you answered yes then Tom Blackledge was the victorious one of the battle of the Toms at the Wembley Arena in London, U.K.

Butterbean: Chuck Liddell Times Two!

Here is a recent video clip of Eric "Butterbean" Esch fighting against James Thompson at Cage Rage 20 on February 10, 2007. It took Butterbean only 43 seconds to stop the fight by KO over Thompson.

Butterbean is well known for his enormous size (398Lbs) and knockout power. His professional boxing record is 76 wins with 57 knockouts, 7 losses and 4 draws while his MMA record which began 31/12/2003 in K1 is 9 Wins - 3 Losses - 1 Draw (4 KO's).

He's twice the size of Chuck Liddell with the same devastating knockout power. Only one punch required to dim the lights for nighty night time.

Canadian Press Should Thank MMA Fever

... for inspiring them to write an article about Tim Sylvia and Randy Couture.

Here is the headline I wrote after hearing time and time again from Sylvia that he wants his opponents to bring the fight to him instead of avoiding him.

"Tim Sylvia wants Randy Couture to Bring It! "

Now here is the headline from The Canadian Press - UFC heavyweight champion Tim (The Maine-iac) Sylvia says bring it on

What's interesting is that I wrote my piece on Sylvia and Couture to somehow meet Tim's challenge by figuring out a strategy to beat the big man on March 3rd even though I don't give Couture much of a chance, if any with his current fighting style.

The direction I went with my article was to say that Sylvia is scared shitless about submissions because he lost twice to them in his past quite easily so that is the reason why he was a little standoffish and considered boring by the fans in his last two fights. Tim fought against Jeff Monson (submission specialist) and Andre Arlovski (who beat Tim for a second time in his career by submission). He's the Champ, if the opponent doesn't like it then, "Bring it!".

I caught the 680 News story as I was reading one of my favorite sites, Fight Opinion and I thought they had linked to me for the third time this week but much to my schagrin, it was a 680 News (my own friggin' hometown AM radio station's website) story courtesy of the Canadian Press, written by Neil Davidson.

In the story, Neil also writes about Tim's black bear hunting trip. Well, that's funny, MMA Fever broke that story to the MMA community. I have the traffic logs to prove it too. Isn't it funny how all of his story research on "his" article has come from was appears to be, MMA Fever!

Anyway Neil, I am flattered that I have inspired you to write a piece on well, nothing new. That's right, you wrote about nothing new with no interesting storyline angle other than young big guy fights older coming out of retirement little guy. YAWN! At least my angle was specific to fight strategy which, I am sure is nothing that you would know about unless you reworded it from someone's site.

Neil and (CP), be sure to come back to be inspired again and don't be afraid to make mention of MMA Fever, you are more than welcome to do so.

Then again, it could all be a coincidence, right?

If not, Canadian Press and Neil Davidson, see picture above and to the left.

Tim Sylvia wants Randy Couture to Bring It!

If you've noticed from the pre-fight hype interviews with Tim Sylvia, he is smart to take a page out of Chuck Liddell's book and tell Randy to "bring it to him" when they fight.

Tim has addressed why the past two fights have been less than exciting for the fans as he states that the fighters are unwilling to bring the fight to Tim. I'll leave this with you make up your own minds however, I do think that Tim was holding back quite a bit against Monson which is why Randy was and is talking smack about Tim for not being an aggressive Heavyweight Champion.

Really, this is all hot air that will dissipate once both fighters step into the octagon to "bring it" to one another.

Randy was recently interviewed by NBC Sports, Mike Chiappetta and Randy Couture says he's ready for Tim Sylvia

Couture has been sparring with some big men to get used to facing a giant like Sylvia and these are the folks that have been helping Randy push some beef.

"Q: Tim is 6-foot-8 and 264 pounds. It can't be easy to find guys close to that size to train with.

A: No, it's not. You can find them as heavy, but not as tall. I've got [MMA veterans] Wes Sims and Dan Christison, who are both 6-foot-8. I have Seth Woodill, who's a former wrestler who's had some fights. He's 6-5, 290. Then I have [UFC star] Frank Mir and Eric Pele. They're a little shorter, but above 270 pounds, so I've definitely had some beef to push around, or try to push around."

Wes Sims huh? Hey, that's the same Wes Sims that lost to Sylvia at Superbrawl 38 by TKO on 12/12/2004. Why would Randy want to train with a Tim Sylvia loser with the exception of Frank Mir who served up the Maine-iac's first MMA loss?

Interestingly enough, Tim chased his win against Sims with a submission loss to Andre Arlovski at UFC 51 by ankle lock.

Let's look at something here, Tim has two losses in his MMA career, both coming by way of submission. Tim did fight cautiously in his last bout against Monson because Monson is a submission specialist. Couture has gone on record to say that he is not a submission guy at all yet he has two recorded wins by submission.

If I were Randy, I wouldn't have accepted the fight against Tim as my comeback however, given that we now have no choice, I would work my butt off with Frank Mir to develop and perfect a couple of submission moves to surprise Sylvia with to finish the fight quickly.

Could Couture's banter about coming after Tim in the octagon be part of his strategy to initiate a submission win during the flurry of punches to be exchanged in the onset of the fight? I am guessing that there will be a melee soon after Big John McCarthy smacks his hands together and says, "Lets get it on, let's go!" at least, this is what Randy has been saying he'll do.

Tim Sylvia is also a sprawl and brawl fighter much like Chuck Liddell and we all know how their past two meetings turned out... by having Randy's lights turned out by the Iceman.

In my opinion, this is the only way Randy Couture has a chance at beating the giant. If Randy thinks he can walk into the octagon and trade shots with big Tim... well... just see how that's gonna work for Randy in this video clip and possible premonition of the UFC 68 headlining bout on March 3rd if Randy sticks to his pre-fight hype game plan.

This is Tim Sylvia fighting Randy Couture's UFC 68 sparring partner, Wes Sims.

Pride 33 & UFC 68 Sports Bar Locations

Yeeee Haaaaaaaa!!!!!

Get yer drink on for back to back Saturday's at yer local waterin' hole to watch the best of the best barn burners of Pride for Pride 33 "The Second Coming" on February 24 and also, UFC 68 to witness "The Uprising" on March 3rd.

Two more valid reasons to go back to Hooters... as if you really needed some.

Licenced Pride 33 sports bar locations in Canada

I have emailed Pride FC for information about sports bar locations in the United States however, they did not show me the courtesy of returning my message. All is not lost though, I know that the usual bars that are licensed to show the Pride 33 event in Canada are also the same bars showing the UFC events.

If you are interested in seeing Pride 33 in the United States at a sports bar near you then I suggest checking out the link below that has confirmed UFC 68 licenced sports bars. Call up the establishment of your choice and ask if they will be showing Pride 33. My guess, based on the huge number of Canadian locations listed would be a definite YES!

If you happen to come across the U.S. locations, please drop me a comment with the information.

Licenced UFC 68 sports bar locations in the United States

Well, that's enough to put a good sized dent in any wallet. I have to warn you right now, there is going to a massive amount of MMA action in April for PPV so stay tuned to MMA Fever and we'll help you find that oasis showing the world's biggest MMA events.

WORLD's TOUGHEST MAN CONTEST - $1,000,000 Prize

Do you have what it takes to be the World's Toughest Man?

Well, now you will have your chance and if you are as tough as you say you are while watching UFC or Pride fighting and think you can kick their butts on TV, try this contest of brutality to determine the world's toughest man!

Ok, now I will start in cracking fun at this contest. What exactly does it mean to be the world's toughest man? I can tell you that a week ago I was standing in -45 degree Celsius weather with the wind blowing madly for roughly 25 minutes. That's tough, man! My ears are still burning from the frost bite.

This upstart organization loosely believes that they are a Mixed Martial Arts organization is... well... a joke in comparison to the Heavyweight champion MMA guru's in Pride & UFC. Never mind the countless other established MMA organizations around the globe.

Have a look at the current group of approved misfits err.. fighters in the contest. I am surprised that Kimbo Slice, the Miami street brawler isn't among them. If someone knows Kimbo, you might want to pass this link over to one of his handlers 'cause I am sure he's gettin' tired of fighting for Big Mac Combo's in people's backyards.

Take a good look at the "qualified" fighter profiles. Here are a few of my favorites that had me spit my favorite beverage on my LCD monitor.

Marlon "Blacky Chang" Bonds

Marlon is a self taught Bruce Lee admiring fighter with heart. At only 19 years of age Marlon is willing to step into the ring against any fighter with any fighting style in order to show he is the best fighter in the world.

Alan "Maniac" Castillo

Alan thinks just as crazy as he looks. This thug is ready to steal yor wallet and leave you on the ground thinking twice about why you looked at him sideways. Just keep your eyes down and he wont hurt you.

Sean "Arrogant Bastard" Belote

Sean is a beer drinking, rugby playing ex-marine sergeant. With a wrestling, Jiu-Jitsu, and marine corps martial arts background Sean is skilled, arrogant, and doesn't care when he steps in the ring. His only goal to hurt you.

Christopher Schommer

As an ex-marine corporal, and urban sniper Chris is looking to inflict military style pain on opponents in order to reign undefeated in the ring. Chris's goal is make sure children accross the globe have a REAL idol to look up to.

Anyway, here is a press release from www.newerafighting.com that outlines the tough man contest and also, the $1, 000, 000 bounty on Kimo Leopoldo's head as the grand prize.

Someone should also mention this to Royce Gracie who only received $400, 000 (before PPV bonuses) for the beat down he received from Matt Hughes at UFC 60. Did you know that Royce defeated Kimo Leopoldo early on in his career at UFC 3?

Here is the New Era Fighting Press Release:

SANTA ANA, California (February 19, 2007) - The highest purse ever offered in the history of Mixed Martial Arts competition -- $1,000,000 - could be on the line for the winner of the New Era Fighting-promoted "World's Toughest Man" contest.

New Era Fighting (NEF), the internationally booming mixed martial arts organization combining the raw brutality of UFC with the entertainment value of WWE, will hold a series of international level tryouts, tentatively scheduled to begin June 15-17, at a venue in Orange Country, California.

Each tryout in the proposed series will be conducted during a three-day tournament during an 8-10 month period. Combat fighters selected will advance to the next round, where they will fight each other in a tournament format to eventually determine the remaining 10 survivors.

The 10 tryout-survivors and some fighters already signed to NEF promotional contracts will compete on a show in either California or Las Vegas. The winner will be crowned "World's Toughest Man" and be offered an anticipated $1,000,000 winner-take-all fight against living legend Kimo Leopoldo, headlining a full card for a pay-per-view broadcast live from in Las Vegas at a date to be determined.

Kimo, the undisputed superstar of New Era Fighting, in effect has had a $1-million bounty placed on his head. "I've had a bounty, of sorts, on me my entire life in one way or another," Kimo said. "I've fought in a lot of other organizations and what we're (NEF) doing is bringing up the average purse for NEF fighters as well as give fighters with other organizations another option and leverage in terms of earning more money. There are no excuses for any fighter (heavyweight) to enter the NEF tournament. If champions and top contenders from other organizations want to fight in the 'World's Toughest Man' tournament, they are welcome to fight and have sufficient time to work things out. Instead of just claiming that they're the best or the baddest fighters in the MMA world, now they all have the chance to prove it.

"For any of them to even have a remote chance of beating me and winning the $1,000,000, though, they'll have to look me in the eyes and go where I'm willing to go to win - whatever it takes, no limits with the force and 100-percent spirit. They will need to be a complete fighter - kicking, striking, cardio, etc. - to get through the tournament and then fight me. This is street-fighting that crosses over to sports. I've been in this sport 12 years and it is evolving through New Era Fighting, which will use the toughness of old-school fighting combined with the great athleticism of today. New Era Fighting will be the only MMA organization with a poll of complete fighters."

NEF president Ron Kort noted that the "World's Toughest Man" contest will not only give fighters an opportunity to ultimately fight Kimo for $1-million, but also be scouted in the tournament for their fighting ability and charisma outside of the ring for a potential NEF promotional contract offer.

"I'm in the process of reviewing bids and proposals to lockdown venues, television relationships, and sponsors but nothing has been finalized, yet," Kort explained. "We are in no hurry and understand the importance of aligning ourselves with the right marketing relationships. Our rules for this show are different from what MMA fans are used to seeing. They will insure the safety of fighters as well as constant action in the ring. We think outside of the box, something most MMA promoters don't do, and that's why our popularity is growing every day. We know what fighters need and MMA fans want and we're selfless enough to give it to them."

For more information about New Era Fighting call 877.6.NEW.ERA (877.663.9372)/714.448.9999 or go on line to www.newerafighting.com.

Jesus and Fighting Don't Mix?

I was doing my rounds today and stumbled upon a post at MMA.tv's UnderGround Forum. Sorry, I cannot locate the post now 'cause the forum content moves really quickly however, I still have the link to the Christian Message Board that posed a very simple question:

Does anyone watch UFC?

Ok, I know you may be thinking, "Who cares" however, the interesting twist is that the people on the message board were divided about whether watching UFC and MMA fighting is a Christian thing to do.

Now before you get mad at me, I want to state clearly that it is not my intention to piss off anyone who is Christian. I am merely reporting a forum discussion that happened on a Christian message board that framed the topic around watching UFC fighting. Don't be hatin'

Ok, some of the posts struck me and I have included the one's that I found to be very interesting below. What I also found interesting was the way in which each Christian poster argued their position back and forth while quoting passages of the Bible to emphasis their points for or against watching UFC fighting.

Not one of the posters used foul language (something that I am currently working on) or flamed each other. Instead, it appeared as a very calm, controlled argument about UFC fighting and the Christian belief. Just seeing that was a first for me and I'm sure if any of them spent 10 minutes on Sherdog Forums then they will definitely get an immediate test of their self control.

By the way, Matt Hughes is a Christian and he proudly displays a biblical quote on his site at the top right corner of his leaderboard banner. Quinton "Rampage" Jackson is also a Christian UFC fighter and there are others as well.

Here are some of the message board posts that I found interesting:

"I watch it but sometimes feel guilty that I am deriving pleasure from guys beatin' the crap out of each other, or putting on sleeper holds etc. I mean, why don't we go all the way and fight to the death like the old gladiators? If we are the temple of God's Holy Spirit and the image of God shouldn't we be ashamed when it's abused so shamelessly? Just some food for thought."

"I know what you mean, I feel guilty as well and your absolutely right, christ minded people shouldn't enjoy voilence just at the sight of it. We should love our bretheren and not enjoy the sight of pain to others. "

"What makes you think God is against violence to begin with? Or that it's "wrong"?Let's start there. "

"... Would Jesus participate in something like this? (here and now) "

"Ge 32:24 And Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a man with him until the breaking of the day.Ge 32:25 And when he saw that he prevailed not against him, he touched the hollow of his thigh; and the hollow of Jacob’s thigh was out of joint, as he wrestled with him.

God sent the Angel to wrestle with him...not for fun...but obviously He isn't against a good fight."

"For my own part I think the following verse speaks quite plainly regarding God's attitude on this subject:
"The Lord tests the righteous and the wicked, and the one who loves violence, His soul hates." (Ps.11:5) "

"The spiritual battle is at hand right now. Christ was and is a warrior for our souls.Exodus 15:3The LORD is a warrior; the LORD is his name."

I have noticed many niche forums that have an MMA thread or subforum. In fact, I receive traffic from these niche forums and some of them would surprise you, or maybe not because the MMA Fever is contagious and its spreading throughout the world at a rapid pace.

Like I have said before, this is the breakout year for mass appeal of Mixed Martial Arts because in my opinion, it is the most exciting spectator sport on the planet... well, next to catching knives in your teeth.

I feel like going to confession now, I'll be right back!

Win a Black Bear Hunt in Ontario with UFC Champ Tim Sylvia

Ok, this one caught me off guard a bit because I am not a hunter and I find out that the UFC Heavyweight Champion, Tim Sylvia is hunting Black Bears in my backyard. I'm from Toronto, Ontario and I'm sure the hunt will take place a ways north of the big smoke 'cause there ain't no bears around here, well, maybe on Bay St. in our financial district.

Wow, you get to spend five days with the Maine-iac in the brutally humid Ontario heat in the middle of August in God's country.

Any Ontario cottager can tell you that hunting black bears are the easiest thing to do with very little effort. Just drive down to the local garbage dump and you'll see a bunch of them snacking on last night's dinner served up in a garbage bag. No cheating Tim!

Good luck finding the bears, they'll smell you a mile away and look for cover... kinda like Randy Couture's revised game plan for fighting big Tim Sylvia at UFC 68, March 3rd in Ohio.

Here is the link to the Bear Hunt PDF flyer page if you're interested in getting sweaty with Tim.

UFC Power Rankings by NBC Sports

NBC Sports has published its ratings for UFC fighters in all weight divisions.

Of course, any ranking that is based on personal opinion is always open for debate. I feel that the Light Heavyweight and the Lightweight rankings are a bit off the mark especially the Light Heavyweight division.

Take a look at NBC Sports' stab at their first UFC fighter rankings and let me know what you think.

Josh Koscheck Wiki Page Attack

I discovered today that Josh Koscheck's Wiki page had been tampered with on a few occasions. The anonymous editor(s) to Josh's Wiki page added a few comments with reference to Josh's Fighting style and Nickname as indicated in the picture to your left (click the picture to view full size).

Fortunately, one of Josh's nuthuggers discovered the change too and locked the Wiki page down while removing all of the recently added content.

What most people don't know about a Wiki page is that it tracks all changes made to the page by user and time stamp. Take a quick look at all of the changes that have occurred today, February 18 starting from the bottom to the top.

Click here to view Koscheck's Wiki page change history

Someone appears to be messing with Josh's mind as well as his Wiki page to psyche him out for his bout with Diego Sanchez at UFC 69 in Texas on April 7.

As reported earlier, Diego Sanchez left a flaming remark on Josh's MySpace page shortly before Valentine's day. I have a feeling that this feud is only going to escalate until the fight happens. It will be one fight that I am personally eager to watch.

Some of the notable additions to the page include:

Contreversy: Koscheck is also WIDLY known as "The Human Blanket" This is in reference to his technique of taking his opponent to the ground and laying on top of him until the match is over, in the hopes of winning the decision.

He was awarded a Bachelor's degree in criminal justice from Edinboro University. He is also a blanket.

Josh D. Koscheck (b. November 30, 1977) is an American mixed martial arts fighter from Fresno, California, a former collegiate wrestler, a comfortable blanket, and is currently fighting at welterweight for the Ultimate Fighting Championship

As of 2006, Koscheck has been training at the American Kickboxing Academy in San Jose, California, to which he accredits his vastly improved kickboxing technique. Additionally, he has trained with the Cuddledown company, and is revered among mixed martial-artists for the quality of warmth he provides. He is very snuggly.

Josh "Magic Carpet" Koscheck (b. November 30, 1977) is an American mixed martial arts fighter from Fresno, California, a former collegiate wrestler, a comfortable blanket, and is currently fighting at welterweight for the Ultimate Fighting Championship. He made his debut with the organization on the first season of the reality television show, The Ultimate Fighter.

Josh "100 Thread Count" Koscheck (b.

Did you know that Josh Koscheck shaved his head too?

UFC Fighters on Blind Date?

Yep, it's all true, we have Tim Sylvia, Pete Spratt and lightweight fighter, Josh Thomson.

Let's see how Tim "The Maine-iac" does on Blind Date... Randy Couture should watch this to find gaps in Tim's game for their upcoming UFC 68 bout on March 3rd:

Pete "The Secret Weapon" Spratt is confirmed to fight at UFC 69 against Marcus "The Irish Hand Grenade" Davis on April 7. Pete definitely has game so Marcus, you better watch out!

Josh "The Punk" *COUGH*PUSSY*COUGH* Thomson has fought in the UFC, Pride, Strikeforce and the WFA. In this episode, he's in for the fight of his life...

Cro Cop First Round Knockouts

Mirko Cro Cop will fight in the UFC for the second time at UFC 70 on April 21st in the United Kingdom against Gabriel Gonzaga. Cro Cop impressed us with his UFC debut against Eddie Sanchez at UFC 67 with a first round ground and pound win.

Gabriel, turn up your audio on this video for the second clip against Igor Vovchanchyn. If that doesn't make you piss your pants and miss your flight to Manchester, England, I don't know what else will.

Pride Champions Tribute

After viewing this video and listening to Aerosmith sing "Dream On", I definitely dream for the day that Cro Cop & Fedor Emilianenko fight again. Fedor beat Cro Cop by decision and that's just not good enough for MMA Fever fans... we want to see a rematch between the two best heavyweight fighters in the world.

Also, I noticed that the champions seemed to have an intangible weapon that they brought into the ring with them over their opponents, true 'heart' in the face of adversity. Very inspiring stuff... Enjoy!

MMA Paradise City

Cool collection of MMA clips from Pride & UFC. Seriously, if you don't like this video, you really don't belong here anyway. The clips are accompanied by a Guns 'n' Roses soundtrack, "Paradise City". This is what MMA Fever is all about!

When Wandy Met Danny - The First Coming

Pride 33 is creeping up upon us and we are set to watch The Second Coming of Wanderlei Silva and Dan "Hollywood" Henderson on Saturday, February 24 at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.

MMA Records:

  • Dan Henderson 21-5-0
  • Wanderlei Silva 31-6-1
To get us all up to speed, I have included the Pride 12 - Cold Fury event that went down on 12/9/2000 that saw the Axe Murderer pulling off a unanimous decision win. These explosive fighters have not faced each other since and I anticipate another barn burner fighting experience for the fans to enjoy.

Joe Rogan Dropped by Agent & Banned From The Comedy Store

Joe Rogan (UFC Commentator & Comedian) recently confronted a comedian at the Comedy Store on stage to expose the performing Carlos Mencia of stealing his comedic material.

Joe Rogan referred to the theft of his material as, "It's like watching your girlfriend getting fucked onstage by a liar while the whole audience cheers."

Joe is not one to be messed with onstage

Below is the blog posted by Joe Rogan on his site, JoeRogan.net

By Joe Rogan:

So here's how it all went down...

I had a set at the comedy store Saturday night, and after I closed, I was bringing on the next comedian, a guy named Kirk Fox that works for Carlos Mencia.
I introduce him saying that he's a funny guy, and that he opens on the road for Carlos "Menstealia." That’s the name we call him at the comedy store, and of course Carlos doesn't like it one bit.

Carlos was apparently in the room when I said this, and the perfect combination of ego and timing made him decide that this was the night to put his foot down.
As I got off stage and headed towards the back of the room, he grabbed the mike away from Kirk, and said that I was too much of a pussy to say that shit to his face.
Which to me, is something akin to the hottest girl in the world daring you to fuck her while you're standing there in her bedroom naked with a boner.
Of course I had to disagree with him, and I decided to get onstage with him and have this "meeting of the minds" as it were.
On video, and for the whole world to see via the internet.
Shazam!

Here's the video to download if the youtube link is down.

Now, a lot of comics have had a problem with Carlos stealing material for a long time now, but for whatever reason, many of them don't like to talk about it publicly, mostly because they're afraid that people are going to think that they're just jealous. That, and they're worried about him using his power in "Hollywood" to have them black balled for talking badly about him. But in private, they talk about it. A LOT.

It's a huge problem at the comedy store, to the point where some really good comics are refusing to go onstage if he's there watching the show, and others have a signal system to alert the guy onstage that Carlos has walked into the room.
It's really THAT BAD.

It's like a dark cloud that hovers over the place when he's performing there. He walks by and people literally stop their conversations and move away.
For whatever reason, the owner of the comedy store, Mitzi Shore, has always let him go up there, perhaps because he started there and the fact that she was actually the one to name himself Carlos Mencia instead of his actual name of Ned. Or, maybe she just wasn't aware of how big of a problem it had become. Either way, it's her club, and she's done so much for comedy in general, and me in particular, that I would never question her about any of her decisions. In fact, I had never even talked to her personally about the problem until today.

Quite honestly, I'm happy to get this video and this blog out there, so that hopefully this can be the last time that I have talk about it.
Even I'm getting sick of me talking about it at this point.

To give you a little background, when I first moved to Hollywood way back in 1994 Carlos and I were actually friends.

We hung out together a bunch of times. Played pool together, went to the gym, hung out at the store, all kinds of shit. That's also how I know that he's really half German and Half Honduran and not Mexican. I know it, because he told me himself.
I thought that it was weird to use a fake name, but who gives a shit really. No big deal.

Other than that he seemed to be a cool guy.

Then I started to see it. Over and over again, I would see him do jokes that I knew I had heard before. Then I saw some real obvious shit. Some jokes that I knew were Paul Mooney's, some that were right off a Richard Pryor album. I brought it up to him, and he gave me this half assed denial that I knew was a lie. That was the end of our friendship.

I didn't hate the guy, but there was no way I could hang around with him knowing he's a thief.

For someone who is not a comic, and doesn't understand what the big deal is about comics stealing jokes, please let me try to explain it to you.

It's hard to come up with material. It takes a lot of work, a lot of rewriting, sometimes an approach bombs and you have to rethink it, and often it's a long process until you get to a finished product.

Now, occasionally a joke will come to you in full form, but for the most part it's just an idea that can become a great bit with some work.

Now, when you work hard on a bit and polish and craft it, and then someone just disrespects the whole process, steps in, steals it and performs it as his own, that's a pretty intense creative violation.

I've been in the back of a club while a guy was onstage doing one of my bits and believe me that's a shitty fucking feeling. It's like watching your girlfriend getting fucked onstage by a liar while the whole audience cheers.

What's even worse, is if you're a struggling comic, and the guy stealing your shit has his own show on comedy central.

Now, our little "beef" started out about a year and a half ago when Carlos was on the radio in Tucson, Arizona doing "the Frank show", and he started talking shit about me, mainly telling a bunch of weird lies about a recent night where we had worked together back to back at the store. Unfortunately for him, the DJ sent me an mp3 of the discussion, and we actually had the evening he was referring to in his story on video, and we posted it up on the internet for all to see and laugh at. His version of the night was nothing more than a weird mix of lies and bragging, and it was pretty obvious to anyone seeing the video and listening to him on the radio that the guy is screwy.

Ever since then, shit talking has been going on back and forth from both sides, and to be honest I've been baiting him into a "conversation" to expose him and end this all for a while now, I just never thought he would actually be dumb enough to want to do it in front of an audience, especially when he knew that we were filming it.

Ego is a motherfucker, I guess.

Either way, I'm glad we got this over with.
For the record, I don't hate the guy. I never really did.
I hated what he was doing, but him as a person it's really more like I felt pity for him.

The dude was living a gigantic lie, and no matter how fucked up and powerful your ego is, there's got to be a part of the back of his brain that realizes what's going on, and cringes at the reality. I think maybe it's even his own subconscious knowing that he's doing something wrong that forced him into this un-winnable battle.
I'm completely convinced that if I ever got that dude high he would curl up into the fetal position and cry for hours.

Either that, or launch himself off a cliff.

When all was said and done at the end of the night, especially after I saw the video, I actually felt sorry for him. I think there's part of him that actually believes his own bullshit. I compared him to OJ in the video, in that they've both convinced themselves that they're innocent, and really I think it's a valid comparison.

Stand up comedy is an awesome, amazing way to make a living, and the comedy store is the greatest place to practice it in the known universe. It's just a really fun place, and there's a ton of funny comics that hang around there, and for the most part it's a really positive environment.

We support each other, and we make each other laugh. We have fun together, except for this one little problem. Hopefully this video will help fix that, and make everything nice-nice again.

Enjoy :)

Josh Koscheck Shaves His Head

Oops... Sorry, I wish Josh would shave his Chia-Pet head but I know someone with more balls than Josh Koscheck and that person is Britney "Shears" Spears.

Yeah, Britney shaved her head in a moment of spontaneity (big word for me) and also got a tattoo of lips on her right forearm.

This relates to MMA because Josh Koscheck and Britney Spears are Prima donna's in their professions. Fortunately, one of them now sports a set of balls whereas, the other still lives in a lay and pray fantasy eunuch world with a shag carpet hair-do.

Kosheck is set to get punished by Diego Sanchez at UFC 69 on April 7 in Texas.

Just like Diego wrote to Josh on his MySpace page, "Pack Some Balls".

It was Britney Spears who shaved her own head. Josh's hair is still well in tact... for now.

Michael "The Count" Bisping - The UFC Columnist?

The ‘Count’down with Michael Bisping

Undefeated British striker Michael Bisping, ‘The Ultimate Fighter 3’ light heavyweight winner, begins his series of weekly columns for www.uk.ufc.com and www.ufc.com.

By Michael 'The Count' Bisping

ANARCHY IN THE UK

The rumours are true: the UFC is back in Britain and in a massive way by the sounds of Wednesday's release, and obviously, I'm very excited that the UFC is going to be in Manchester, England on April 21 at the MEN Arena.

And, as the locals in Manchester say, they will be "mad for it" when the UFC hits town and I'm confident that my fellow Brits will create an atmosphere to match any in UFC history on the night.

Dana White has said that I am going to be a 'poster boy' for the UFC in Great Britain and, although I'm not all that sure what a poster boy actually does, I'm very honoured and flattered the UFC thinks so highly of me.

At the time of writing this I'm currently waiting for absolute, final confirmation that I'll be fighting on the card - and more importantly who I will be fighting - but I am already in training and cannot wait.

Seriously, to be part of a UFC card in my own country will be a dream come true -another dream come true in what has been a fantastic year or so for me.

The last time the UFC was in the UK was in July 2002. Back then I hadn't even begun training MMA - if you'd have asked at the time I'd have guessed "pulling guard" was holding your hands in front of your face - but five years later I'm going to be a big part of it.

It's crazy, really.

THE STAR TREATMENT

I've been back to Vegas twice since I beat Eric Schafer on UFC 66 on December 30 - both times to do PR work for the UFC with the British press.

I've really put in some air miles this last year and I've got to say, I much prefer flying over the Atlantic without having to sit next to my mate and fellow TUF 3 contestant Ross Pointon for eight hours at a time.

I've done several trans-Atlantic trips with Ross and while he's a nice guy, believe me, too much of his yapping in one go can really get on your nerves when you just want to read or watch the in-flight movie...

"You know what I mean?"

I've actually enjoyed the PR side of things I've been doing. I know some fighters don't like doing interviews and stuff, but I see talking to the press and representing the UFC as part of my job and, actually, it's a part I quite enjoy.

My girlfriend has told me for years that I talk too much - especially about myself - but now I've got the excuse that the UFC actually wants me to talk about myself.

And I couldn't believe that I got a full-page article in a UK national newspaper called Daily Star last month talking about me as the UFC's answer to David Beckham. For those of you in America who maybe don't know, Beckham is an English born soccer icon who recently signed to play for LA Galaxy.

The first I knew of the Daily Star article on me was my mates calling me up on the Saturday morning telling me about it. Some of my mates have given me some grief a bit about the Beckham reference, but, believe me, the UFC's answer to him or not, I'm not going to go in for no daft hair cuts and I certainly won't be wearing my girlfriend's knickers out in public!

Having said that, I could certainly put Beckham-style $1million per week wages to very good use, if you're reading this, Mr White!

JACKSON FIVE (OUT OF TEN)

But like I said after my last fight, everyone in the 205lbs division (or 14stone 9lbs in English money) better watch their backs because I've not come this far just to make up the numbers in the UFC light heavyweight division.

WEIGHT A MINUTE

There's been a bit of talk on the fan forums about me been a little too small for light heavyweight and, to be honest, I have thought once or twice about giving middleweight a go.

Last year I almost decided to have a dummy run at making 185lbs and see if I still felt strong and sharp. But, having thought about it some more, I'd consider myself a bit of a coward running down to middleweight to fight smaller guys.

And, anyway, I wouldn't risk trying to get down to middleweight for a fight and either let the UFC down by not getting to 185lbs (13stone 3lbs) or having to spend hours sweating my arse off in a sauna, weakening myself before the fight. Nah, that doesn't sound good to me at all.

But I do realise I'm a little smaller than guys like Chuck Liddell - who is a monster - but the Count has a plan!

I've got a mutual acquaintance with Ricky Hatton - Britain's best boxer - and I've been put in touch with Ricky's strength and nutrition coach, Kerry Kayes.

Kerry is regarded as the very best in the business in England and as well as training Hatton and a load of other top boxers, he's also just trained a powerlifter to deadlift 1000lbs, which is kinda like the four-minute mile of power lifting.

And I only need to lift 205lbs - my opponents - for a slam so I am sure Kerry can help me out.

I'm going over to Manchester to meet with Kerry in a few days. Hopefully he doesn't think I'm a lost cause and agrees to help me out.

I'll tell you all about it next week...

Fight Clubs Flourishing

Fight clubs flourishing:
Teenagers engaging in mixed martial arts

By ALEJANDRA MOLINA AND VALERIA GODINES
The Orange County Register

The two teen boys step into the cage in the Mission Viejo backyard. Dozens of others, waiting their turn to fight, cheer them on. They kick each other, get each other in chokeholds and finally the boy pinned to the ground taps the map to concede defeat.

They're practicing mixed martial arts, a sport that once was underground but has now become mainstream with reality television shows and high-priced fights in California and Las Vegas.

But teenagers are taking the sport back underground by fighting in their backyards, garages and parks at midnight, say law enforcement authorities who work with the youngsters. And they're getting injured. Last year, according to one Orange County Sheriff's deputy, a boy was taken to the hospital with a head injury.

Mixed martial arts blends striking, kicking, punching, Jiu-Jitsu and other forms of martial arts. The fighting is often done in a cage. Its defenders say it is a serious, disciplined sport that should be done under proper supervision.

"We don't try to hurt each other… it's nothing too serious," says Mike Diaz, a Tesoro High School graduate who practices on Friday nights.

Mike's father, Wayne Diaz, is aware of the intense backyard brawls but says his son and his friends practice mixed martial arts in his backyard without hurting each other.

"They're just goofing around… I don't think they're that serious. They don't do full on beating each other up or set up fights," Wayne said.

Seventeen-year-old Myles Rowe does his fighting in a cage in the backyard of his friend's house in Mission Viejo.

"We do it just to be messing around," Rowe, a Silverado High School student, said.
"It's like a test to see what you have. It's about pride. We're all friends, so we keep it under control."

But some law enforcement authorities are worried it's getting out of hand.

"It's a growing trend," said Orange County Sheriff's Deputy Lance Christensen, a school resource officer for unincorporated south Orange County areas. "It's become mainstream in the last year and the kids have just embraced it. It's one of the newest trends that's taken off."

Fight clubs aren't only a problem in Orange County. A search in MySpace will lead you to fight club groups all over the United States where MMA enthusiasts can talk about the sport and arrange local fight club gatherings. You Tube, a popular free video sharing website, features various clips of underground brawls.

A teen at risk forum is in the works for Laguna Hills, Laguna Niguel and Aliso Viejo. Christensen plans to go to educate parents about the dangers of the fighting. A date hasn't been set. Parents are usually shocked when they hear about the trend.

The California State Athletic Commission, which oversees professional boxing and martial arts, approved mixed martial arts in December 2005. The sport has become popular through The Ultimate Fighter, a reality television show.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship, the most popular MMA organization in North America, held its first event in California last year in Anaheim.
Students are drawn to the sport.

"They look up to these guys," said Christensen, who educates several students a week about the potential dangers of the sport.

Within the last year, he came across one fight involving 100 spectators at an area park.
World Extreme Cagefighting lightweight champion "Razor" Rob McCullough of Huntington Beach, a former homeless youth who said he found his salvation in mixed martial arts, said he had not heard of the trend of kids fighting in backyards but said it could be dangerous without supervision and training.

"I definitely would not approve of that," he said. "Besides being illegal, it is very unsafe. I come from a disciplined type of art."

His HB Ultimate Training Center, which offers MMA classes, has been around seven years. He says that the trend of mixed martial arts has taken off.

"It's like a little kindling and somebody has dumped a ton of gasoline on it," he said.
He estimates that five years ago there were four MMA gyms in Orange County. Now there are around 15. At No Limits Mixed Martial Arts and Fitness gym in Irvine, membership has jumped from 300 last year to 900 this year.

Nineteen-year-old Jeff Shulze from Rancho Santa Margarita said that he and his friends do it for discipline and to learn how to handle their body better, but does acknowledge the trend of fight clubs.

"Fight clubs are a big thing for kids that are in high school… boys are either out drinking or fighting."

LeAna Bui, a Tesoro High School PTA member has a 17-year-old daughter who attends Tesoro and says she has heard of midnight gatherings at parks related to fight clubs.

"If my child was involved, I'd be concerned," Bui said.

Jan Carroll, assistant principal at Mission Viejo High School, said in December she was surprised when she saw a video of kids fighting in a Mission Viejo backyard. There were about 25 kids in the video.

"I was surprised to see the group of students because it's not the kids you'd think ... it was kids with high IQs and high GPAs and honors kids are doing this, and it's not just one venue of students," said Carroll, who added that fights have never happened on campus.

Jim Miyashiro with Santa Ana Unified School District said ultimate fighting didn't appear to be a problem in his school district. He speculates that the sport, which is expensive with ringside seats costing $1,000, are out of reach for many of the poorer students in his district. Boxing is the fighting sport of choice for his school district, he said.

Trained athletes who offer classes in mixed martial arts defend the sport and say it is a healthy outlet for teenagers and a way for them to learn to defend themselves.

"This is the new x-game of this generation and it's a lot safer than people think," said Bryon Schnell, 34, owner and operator of No Limits Mixed Martial Arts and Fitness in San Clemente.
"MMA is a good outlet for kids ... under the proper supervision. You have kids who have learned how to defend themselves in a very positive environment."

Twelve-year-old Skyler Bennis trains at No Limits Gym in San Clemente and says it is a good outlet for her.

"I got into it because I was looking for a way to be competitive and to maintain myself. This place is really good to help people stop fights in the streets."
For James Licavoli, a San Clemente High senior, kickboxing training at No Limits has helped him stay out of trouble.

This is self defense," Licavoli said. "I compete in a ring, not in some fight club on the street."

Takanori Gomi Highlight

Not much is known in North America about the number one ranked Lightweight in the world, Takanori "The Fireball Kid" Gomi. Gomi will fight against former UFC fighter Nick Diaz in Las Vegas on February 24 for Pride 33 - The Second Coming.

Here is a highlight of "The Fireball Kid"

Rich Franklin - “I’m ready to fight.”

UFC.com recently interviewed Rich Franklin and I have captured some very interesting quotes from Mr.Franklin about his last fight against Anderson Silva and his upcoming fight with Jason "The Athlete" MacDonald at UFC 68.

On the loss of his UFC Middleweight championship:

“I cornered against Silva when he fought Jeremy Horn,” Franklin explained about his prefight mindset. “He was a lot smaller then. I was banking on my size and strength to carry me through the fight a little bit. I thought I would be able to push him around in the clinch. When he grabbed a hold of me and hit me with those first few knees, [his strength] surprised me.”

On learning from a loss:

“I hate when people talk about losing being a learning experience”, “Naturally, you are going to learn something each time you lose. But I really believe that people tell themselves that losing is a learning experience in order to feel better over the fact that they lost. I don’t like telling myself that. The fact of the matter is that I lost the fight. I don’t like losing. I just want to get back in the ring and win again.”

On accountability for the loss:

“After a loss like that, I am not going to go back and point the finger at my coaches or anything,” he said. “There were a few things that I personally overlooked. But my coaches did a great job preparing me. Those same guys are helping me prepare for MacDonald.”

On facing Jason MacDonald at UFC 68:

“This is definitely a big fight for me”. “I think MacDonald said it best when he beat Ed Herman. He said, ‘If they brought me in here to be a stepping stone, they were wrong.’ I think he has proved that he is not anybody’s stepping stone. He is red hot after two big wins, and I’m coming off a loss. I definitely don’t look at MacDonald as just some easy win.”

On the difference in conditioning for 3-round Vs. 5-round fights:

“There is no difference between having five-round cardio and three-round cardio for me”. “My cardio is based on whether I can out push my opponent. If I’m only fighting for 15 minutes, then I just up my pace [during the fight]. But that means my cardio has to be just as good for a three-round fight as a five-round fight.”

On Franklin's fight plan against MacDonald:

“I’m just going to go out there, throw some punches and see what happens”. “I’m ready to fight.”

If I Could Be Like That...

I admit it, I'm a sucker for a good MMA video clip and this one is second to none. It covers some of the best fights from the best fighters in the world from UFC & Pride FC.

This one definitely satisfies my guilty pleasure along with a great soundtrack by a cool band called 3 Doors Down. I think all rock videos should be like this one but then again, I am biased ;)

UFC 70 Date Set

From UFC.com:

UFC announces event date in the UK
SATURDAY, APRIL 21, 2007 LIVE FROM MANCHESTER’S MEN ARENA

Las Vegas, NV – The Ultimate Fighting Championship® (UFC®) organization today announced its long-awaited return to Great Britain this spring when the world’s greatest mixed martial artists throw down at Manchester's MEN Arena Saturday, April 21.

The Manchester event will be the first UFC event in the United Kingdom since 2002.

“We are very excited to be back in the UK,” said UFC President Dana White. “We had a lot of obstacles over the last six years, but I never gave up on bringing the UFC back to the UK. Now we have our UK office up and running, we’re going to have fights in the UK and throughout Europe, so the UFC is here to stay.”

It seems Great Britain cannot wait for that to happen.

Marshall Zelaznik, the UFC’s UK President said, "There's already a huge buzz about what is going to happen at the MEN Arena on April 21. When the UK website – uk.ufc.com - was launched two weeks ago the stats went through the roof and there is great anticipation as to who will be fighting in Manchester.”

Those details - and full ticket information - will be announced in the near future. For UFC fans located in Great Britain, this is the official announcement that the UFC is coming after a half-decade of waiting.

Zelaznik added, “Our British fans have been demanding this and now, finally, the UFC returns to the UK. And this time we are here to stay.”

Diego Sanchez Flames Josh Koscheck's MySpace Page

Diego Sanchez left a flame post on Josh Koscheck's MySpace page wishing him a Happy Valentine's day:

Diego Sanchez
Feb 11 2007 8:32P

"HAPPY VALENTINES DAY HUMAN BLANKET, I HOPE YOU PACK SOME BALLS IN YOUR SUIT CASE WHEN YOU COME TO H TOWN, PLEASE DONT TRY TO DRY HUMP ME LIKE ALL YOUR OTHER BORING ASS FIGHTS. IM READY RIGHT NOW!!!! I ASKED DANA FOR YOU!! P.S. YOU AINT GOT HANDS"

Now, I'm excited to watch this fight as I feel the same way about lay and pray wrestlers in MMA. Sanchez and Koscheck will fight again since their last time at the TUF1 semi-finals.

I think it's great that Kos and Sanchez use the world's greatest medium and social networking site in MySpace to trash talk and hype their upcoming UFC 69 fight which also headlines the return of GSP against TUF4 winner, Matt Serra.

MMA Girls Lesson #4

This one is just hot. Watch how to defend the double leg takedown and finish with a choke.

Enjoy.

UFC Champion Anderson Silva gets owned in PRIDE

Its called the flying scissor heel hook. His opponent was Ryo Chonan. Despite having a broken foot, Silva attempted to fight anyway. The fight was back-and-forth, with no fighter gaining a dominating advantage up until the third round, when Chonan executed a slick flying scissor heel hook, forcing Silva to submit.

David "The Crow" Loiseau has fallen and he can’t get up.

Just who is the crow?

Many of you freaks remember David for his Tae Kwon Do and punishing elbows. Soon you won't remember him at all.

David has lost his last 3 fights and has been recently dropped from ultra popular ratings whore UFC.

The crow’s last two fights in the UFC saw him losing to Rick Franklin (UFC 58: USA vs. Canada) in a 5 round unanimous decision, and lastly to another decision to Mike Swick (UFC 63: Hughes vs. Penn).

On February 10, 2007 at EliteXC Destiny David lost again by unanimous decision to Joey Villasenor.

The Crow has fallen and he can't seem to get up.

This video was created when Randy Couture announced his retirement following his defeated Light Heavyweight bout against Chuck Liddell. I respect Randy for stepping into the octagon with a giant like Sylvia and I do hope he does well. With that being said, I am not confident that Randy Couture can pull off a win against "The Maine-iac" Tim Sylvia at all. I just hope he doesn't get hurt and embarrassed in his upcoming fight at UFC 68 on March 3rd.

Watching this Randy Couture Farewell video clip seems like deja vu... or is it foreshadowing?

Renzo Gracie vs. Frank Shamrock Video

This was the headline EliteXC fight between Renzo Gracie and Frank Shamrock with a controversial ending.

Renzo Gracie post fight video coverage:

Gina Carano EliteXC Weigh-In & Fight Video

I've been asked for this one and I have the weigh-in video and the EliteXC fight that happened on Saturday. Gina Carano won by decision by the way in case you missed it :)

Warrior Nation Noteable Quotes

Warrior Nation episode 4 aired this past Saturday and it was by far the best documentary in the 4 part series that takes a look under the hood of MMA in America. I hope they decide to continue with this series because it was very entertaining and informative.

What I have done is captured the quotes that are flashed on the screen at key points in the fourth episode of the documentary that focused on UFC 66 as well as the Byrnes and Clark fight at Miramar. I'll do my best to locate video footage for you when it surfaces however, in the meantime, I hope you enjoy the quotes as much as I do.

"What the superior man seeks is in himself; what the small man seeks is in others"
- Confucius

"Success is about having, excellence is about being. Success is about having money and fame, but excellence is about being the best you can be"
- Mike Ditka

"A fight is not won by one punch or kick. Either learn to endure or hire a bodyguard"
- Bruce Lee

"Persistent work triumphs"
- Virgil

"You are never really playing one opponent. You are playing yourself, your own high standards, and when you reach your limits, that is joy"
- Arthur Ashe

"Fighting is like champagne. It goes to the head of cowards as quickly as of heroes. Any fool can be brave on a battlefield when it's be brave or else be killed"
- Margaret Mitchell

"Only a man who knows what it is like to be defeated can reach down to the bottom of his soul and come up with the extra ounce of power it takes to win when the match is even"
- Muhammad Ali

UFC 69 Fight Card & the Return of GSP

UFC 69 – Shootout - Fight Card @ Toyota Center in Houston, Texas on April 7. Please note that this card is subject to change at any time but here is what the UFC has put together for us at the moment. UFC 68 Fight Card is right here with early fan predictions if you were wunderin'.

  • UFC Welterweight Title: Georges St. Pierre vs. Matt Serra
  • Yushin Okami vs. Mike Swick
  • Diego Sanchez vs. Josh Koscheck
  • Kendall Grove vs. Alan ‘The Talent’ Belcher
  • Marcus Davis vs. Pete Spratt
  • Luke Cummo vs. Josh Haynes
  • Roger Huerta vs. TBA
  • Heath Herring vs. TBA
  • Thales Leites vs. Pete Sell

Quick picks - GSP will slaughter Matt "The Human kicking post" Serra. Matt Serra is 5'6" and GSP is 5'10" Fahgettaboutit, GSP all the way! Matt Serra isn't worth writing about.

Yushin Okami is no joke folks. He's the real deal and it's about time the UFC beefed up the Middleweight division. Yushin has an impressive MMA record at 19-3-0 and won a bout against my second favorite UFC fighter, Anderson "The Spider" Silva by disqualification due to an illegal kick to the head at Rumble on the Rock 8 - January 20, 2006. Why write about a kick when I can show it to you.. that's why you keep coming back isn't it?

Here it is:

Sanchez vs.Koscheck - I can't stand Koscheck because he's not a complete fighter like Diego "Dirty" Sanchez is... yes, I know he calls himself "The Nightmare". Dana White, please put Koshit in the WFA for a while until he learns at least one submission move (and not the sloppy rear naked he tries to pull) and learns how to punch like a man and not a girl... and what guy wears a perm? He deserves and ass beating just because of his hair and for making MMA in the UFC boring when he fights unless, he's on the receiving end of a Drew Fickett flying knee, now THAT was entertaining.

Sanchez will win, no question and will deserve a shot at GSP after GSP superman punches Matt Hughes in the forehead again when Hughes tries desperately to avenge his championship loss. To see that again is easily worth double the price of the PPV event.

Kendall Grove will win this cherry picked fight against No-Talent Alan Belcher. Finally, a win for Tito's Team Punishment. Whew, if Tito's camp doesn't win any fights, we'll have to rename Big Bear to Brokeback Mountain... and you know what I mean ;)

Marcus Davis vs. Pete Spratt - Davis beat Shonie Carter at UFN7 and Pete Spratt recently won at TUF4 finale. Not really sure which welterweight will win and it really doesn't matter 'cause GSP will be the welterweight champion for the next 10-15 years.

It's an alright fight card, not the greatest, just alright. It'll get us through until the gala extravaganza of UFC 70 which will be hosted in the United Kingdom and we'll get to watch Michael "The Count" Bisping walk out to the octagon with the coolest entrance music of any fighter, "London Calling" by The Clash. Can't wait for that one!

Matt Hughes has Not Evolved as Fast as MMA

In my most humble opinion, I believe that Matt Hughes is completely done (stick a fork in him) in the upper echelon of the MMA world.

Matt Hughes is an awesome wrestler that knows a couple of jiu-jitsu moves such as the arm bar, kimura, americana and the rear naked choke as Frank Trigg knows all too well.

Matt has no stand up striking skills or any kickboxing/TaeKwon-do skills or previous formal training. That's a H-U-G-E G-A-P in the sport of MMA. As I have said before, Matt Hughes' pinnacle to his success was defeating a deflated former UFC champion in Royce Gracie. Both are similar in that they have seen the sport of MMA evolve then eventually pass them over for fighters who can easily adapt to change.

Georges St.Pierre(GSP) proved to the MMA world that the Matt Hughes era is now officially over and a new breed of a younger, dynamic fighter has emerged and raised the bar in the Welterweight division of the UFC.

Matt telegraphs his takedows which is why B.J. Penn and GSP were so successful with stuffing him and making him frustrated in their fights. Hughes will be fighting Chris Lytle at UFC 68 and this is nothing more than a set up fight by Dana "Don King" White not unlike the set up fight Mike Tyson got when he came back to boxing after a 4-year incarceration stint for rape to come back and fight Peter McNeely. Unfortunately for McNeely, he has also run into a bit of trouble as well.

Too bad Hughes isn't man enough to fight GSP to avenge his loss upon his return... the same goes for Rich Franklin who has also enjoyed the set-ups ride Dana White put him on too who will also not avenge his loss against Anderson Silva upon his return to the octagon.

These guys are bitches and it's all about the money. I hope both of them get their asses kicked for taking the safe road back to the UFC for ducking the real champions, GSP and Anderson Silva. They are still effective with plowing down up and coming fighters, it's just the real good ones that they can't beat mostly because they have been avoiding them for so long.

Here is a video clip of Georges St.Pierre knocking the chip off of arrogant Matt Hughes' shoulder with a high left kick in the second round at UFC 65.

On that night, a country boy died!

Who Cares about a Rampage Vs. Chuck Liddell Rematch?

Hey Dana White, slow your roll!

Don't forget what you promised to UFC fans at UFC 61 that we would see Wanderlei Silva fight Chuck Liddell contingent upon Chuck's win over Babalu Sobral. Well, Chuck knocked the fuck out of Sobral and still we fans of the UFC wait to see who is better, Pride or UFC.

Dana, you are worse than Donald Trump and Don King put together. You blow everything out of proportion and never miss a chance to shamelessly promote your second rate MMA organization built on empty promises. Oh yeah, you also promised to box Tito Ortiz, has that happened yet? Ahhhh.... Nope!

Back to Wandy for a moment... Dana White promised you, the fans, that they would see Chuck fight Wandy. Not Tito Ortiz, Wandy. Unfortunately, Wandy was KTFO by Mirko Cro Cop a month before UFC 66 so that fight couldn't happen due to a medical suspension handed over to Wandy because of the vicious knockout.

Why don't we hear about a Chuck Liddell and Wandy match-up? Because, Quintion Jackson's contract was bought when Dana bought the WFA and he blew up the big, bouncy marketing balloon to (not so subtly) promote the Rampage/Liddell rematch while hiding his promise to you, the UFC fan that you will see Wandy fight Chuck.

Let's see Dana grow a set of balls and make the Wandy/Chuck fight happen. The fans need to speak out and let Dana White know that we are tired of second rate fighters hand picked from your Ultimate Fighting reality series. Tired, just like your fighters. What we want is real MMA talent; what we want is Wanderlei Silva to fight Chuck Liddell under UFC rules. What we want most of all Dana White, is for you to keep your word to the fans otherwise, shut the fuck up.

Watch this video and afterwards ask yourself if you even care to see an undisciplined fighter like Rampage fight Chuck Liddell. Seriously, Chuck would smash Rampage and beat him like his momma did when he was a young juvenile delinquent collecting money for drugs on the mean streets of Memphis. Boring!

Wanderlei "The Axe Murderer" Silva is set to fight the American , Dan Henderson at Pride 33 - The Second Coming on February 24 in Las Vegas.

Warrior Nation 4 Reminder

SECAUCUS , N.J. - January 31, 2007 - On February 10th, the 4th installment of MSNBC's "Warrior Nation," takes viewers behind the scenes at UFC 66, the legendary TITO ORTIZ v CHUCK LIDDELL match up. Ortiz and Liddell, long time rivals, and UFC champions, granted MSNBC exclusive access during the lead up to this epic event. Viewers will see the fighters at home, while they are training, and mentally preparing for the fight of a lifetime. Warrior Nation followed the fighters for the month leading up to the fight and gained inside access at their homes, and in the gym.

The show follows the two from San Luis Obispo and Big Bear, CA as they head to the fight at MGM Grand, in Las Vegas . Dana White, the president of the UFC, is also prominently featured. Over 1 million Americans subscribed to watch UFC 66 on Pay Per View.

As the reigning UFC World Light Heavyweight Champion, Chuck 'The Iceman' Liddell is 37-years-old and has dominated the UFC light heavyweight division, knocking out his last six opponents. The challenger is #1 contender 'Huntington Beach Bad Boy' Tito Ortiz. At 32-years-old, Tito lost his championship belt to Randy Couture in 2003 and was defeated by Liddell in 2004.

But he has won five consecutive fights and wants to regain his championship title by defeating Liddell. Episode Four also features up-and-coming fighters, Steve Byrnes and Logan Clark, who earned their shot to debut for the UFC at UFC Fight Night at Miramar Marine Corps Air Station. A former marine Sergeant stationed in Iraq , Steve Byrnes currently trains in Hawaii and works at a local nightclub. Steve's opponent is Logan Clark, a 21-year-old college student from Minnesota.

Both fighters are undefeated and feel the pressures of fighting in the UFC for the first time.

Michael Rubin is vice president, long-form programming, MSNBC. David Kelley is executive producer, prime-time specials, MSNBC.

Pride 33 Predictions by -=NaUtiX=-

These Pride 33 - The Second Coming Picks come to you courtesy of our newest contributor to MMA Fever, NaUtiX

NaUtiX, much the same as Nick Diaz, is a brown belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and has an in depth knowledge of the art and craft of this dynamic martial art that is the foundation for all professional MMA fighters today.

MMA Fever is excited to have NaUtiX on board as he will add a third element to our already diverse crew of fanatical MMA Fever writers & publishers and fans.

Without further adieu, here are the NaUtiX Pride 33 picks:

NaUtiX SeZ....

Sup people, below are my Picks and Predictions on the next Pride Event.

Wanderlei Silva vs. Dan Henderson

I’m a huge Silva fan so I’ll be rooting for Wandy. He is vicious, fearless and has a devastating clinch that will punish Dan Henderson. Wanderlei recently lost to Cro Cop which means the “Axe Murderer” will not lose again. Wandy has never lost 2 fights in a row in his 31 - 6 – 1 career. I predict Wanderlei by TKO

Takanori Gomi vs. Nick Diaz

This has the potential to be the fight of the night. Both Gomi and Diaz are exciting fighters to watch, both proficient in their stand up and ground game. Diaz looked very sharp in his last fight against Tibau, his boxing has gotten better and his punches are more accurate. The “Fireball Kid” and “Diablo” are both on a 3 fight winning streak so something will have to give. I predict Nick Diaz by submission.

Kazuhiro Nakamura vs. Travis Wiuff

Nakamura looked pretty good in his fight against Shogun.I’m predicting Nakamura with a decision win over Travis Wiuff.

Hayato Sakurai vs. Mac Danzig

Hayato Sakurai has fought and lost to some big names such as Anderson Silva, Matt Hughes, Frank Trigg, Takanori Gomi and Caol Uno. Danzig is a new comer to Pride and by track record, He is a decisions kind of a guy and can’t finish. I refer to them as “unimpressive fighters” (4 Decisions in the last 5 fights…boooring)I predict Sakurai by Decision..haha

Kazuo Misaki vs. Frank Trigg

It’s nice to see Frank “got choked out” Trigg back in the mainstream. I’m rooting for Misaki on this one. Misaki by Decision.

Mauricio Shogun vs. Allistair Overeem

Shogun will Knock the Fuck out of Allistair again. It will be a Chutebox night, with Shogun’s hand being raised in the end. Allistair has all the physical abilities to be a great fighter but lacks heart and consistency. Him and Vitor Belfort should hang out.I predict Shogun by KO

Nick Diaz Trash Talks Gomi

Nick Diaz is set to fight the Pride Lightweight champion in his Pride debut at Pride 33 on February 24 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Ok, let's back up for a moment... Diaz is a former UFC fighter making his debut in Pride against the Lightweight Champion, "The Fireball Kid" Takanori Gomi. Sounds like Pride wants to make a huge statement to the world to showcase where the best fighters, and MMA organization is in the world. Dana White will be watching fo show!

Diaz is a good fighter with a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Brown belt under the world famous Cesar Gracie. Diaz has lost to lesser fighters than Gomi in the UFC such as Karo Parysian, Diego Sanchez, Joe Riggs and the newly crowned UFC Lightweight Champion, Sean "The Muscle Shark" Sherk.

Here is a quote from Nick Diaz given in an interview to graciefighter.com about his upcoming bout against Gomi:

"I don't think he has anything to offer that I haven't seen before. I think I've fought tougher guys than him. The guys I've fought hit harder, were better wrestlers and better grapplers. What does he think he'll be able to do to me? I'm not intimidated at all and if he thinks he can knock me out that's fine. I think he'll be the one getting an ass beating so I hope he's ready." - Diaz

Now, those who orbit often in MMA circles will know that Nick Diaz is a good fighter and he's also a loose cannon who isn't afraid to fight anyone anyhow, anywhere regardless of the opponent which, could be dangerous for Nick.

I am throwing my support for Gomi to knockout Diaz. The MMA world will be watching the unofficial UFC Vs. Pride fight on American soil, February 24. Stay connected to MMA Fever and we'll have the clips following the fight.

I have included my favorite video clip of Nick Diaz fighting against "Ruthless" Robbie Lawler at UFC 47 on 4/2/2004.

MMA Fever Found Nate Quarry

MMA Fever has been searching for Nate Quarry since he got Salmoned by Rich Franklin at UFC 56 on 11/19/2005.

The search was long and exhaustive and the folks at Sherdog Forums need not worry about Nate "The Rock" Quarry any longer as he is in good Kazakstanian hands with the loveable Borat.

Much better than the left hand Quarry received from Franklin.

After his fight with Franklin, Quarry had a successful surgical procedure on his back; he hopes to make a return in mid 2007 only if Borat can replace Randy Couture as a UFC announcer and also train to fight for the Heavyweight Championship too.

So, Quarry is officially bitchtasized by Borat... sad to say but not for Nate who appears to be happy and very healthy with his new friend.

Here is the video of Nate's stiffy against Franklin...

Terry Martin Vs Jorge Rivera UFC 67

For Colonel Balz' story below:

Rivera suffered nasal and right jaw fractures during his fight with Terry Martin

According to NBC Sports.....

Jorge Rivera suffered nasal and right jaw fractures during his fight with Terry Martin, according to the Nevada State Athletic Commission's report on UFC 67. Rivera suffered a brutal knockout in only 14 seconds, when Martin caught an attempted legkick and landed a straight right that put Rivera down before hammering.

Well MMA FEVER FANATICS I couldn't dig up this particuliar video however how about Jorge against Anderson Silva?

Why did Matt Hughes lose to the Nation of Quebec's Georges St. Pierre (GSP)

Well folks,

the Colonel almost cried today when he read this article posted on Matt Hughes website.

I cried because I realized I might be ghay for visiting this site.

What the fawk is Matt thinking?

1. for making such a ghay site
2. for making such rookie mistakes. Or is that just a kop out? I think Oui its a Kop out.

Well MMA Fever Maniacs its at least worth visiting once for the laugh.

Matt believes he lost the fight because:
1. He did not watch enough tapes of GSP
2. He did not train hard enough

Dood??? Whatever at least you had faith????
Note: There is a special quote at the top of the page which MMA Fever regular Dion Domingo may appreciate:

"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."
Phillippians 4: 13

Dood Phillipeanian Pour 13.

The Colonel

Heath Herring returns at UFC 69

Who really gives a fawk?

Well, the Colonel does. Heath’s debut in the UFC was such a laugh and his post fight interview killed me.

If you remember Keith was bitchtasized (new word “bitchtasized” meaning was made to be someone’s bitch which occurs a lot in prison) by Jake O’Brien in the last UFC Ultimate Fight Night.

Keith was brought in by Dana White to help raise the competition in the heavyweight division. Well it did not work out so good for Dana as Keith spent most of the fight on his back and lost.

I believe that Heath will try to put on a good show and if he doesn’t well we can make fun of him all over again.

Shhh... Keep this a Secret...

I found the Silva Vs. Lutter fight. Don't tell too many people 'cause I know Zuffa is checking this site to see where I am pointing to UFC 67 videos.. This is our secret for MMA Fever fans alone.

As with any copyright material that exists on the Internet, it may or may not stay up there for long. What I find most interesting is that Zuffa appears to be very selective with the videos it wants to hide from the public domain and the one's they don't mind the public having access to... *cough* Cro Cop video *cough*

Anyway, I am keeping my promise to MMA Fever fans and also, this site alive with fresh content.

Keep checking back for updates...

Shhhhh........

UFC and Dana White make the move toward DOMINATION of the MMA World

Mirko Cro Cop, Quinton "Rampage" Jackson, Japan's Pride Fighting Federation's losing its television contract in Japan, and no other viable competition.....

All reasons why the UFC is ready to conquer the Mixed Martial arts world.
Read Dana White talk about conquering the MMA world courtesy of OregonLive.
"Companies like these have been popping up for six years, but they don't have any real fighters and they don't know what it takes to succeed in this business," White said. "Now is the time to put the smack down."

Colonel Balz

UFC 67 Post Fight Conference

Featuring Dana White, Rampage Jackson, Anderson Silva and Roger Huerta.

Listen to what Rampage says, too funny!

Joe Rogan & Dana White Post UFC 67 Interview

Joe talks about the genesis of the UFC and the future of MMA and a few other tidbits of interest about UFC 67 in a very candid way. Joe is leaning toward Sylvia (like I do) against Couture at UFC 68. Good interview.

Some interesting information about Cro Cop's and Rampage Jackson's future, The Ultimate Fighter 5 (set to air April 5th) and some other noteworthy topics about what is to come down the pipe.

Mirko Cro Cop Injured

According to a post fight interview with Mirko Cro Cop, Mirko had his knee drained 10 days before the fight with Eddie Sanchez at UFC 67.

Fabulous Fedor

Do you want to know who the greatest pound for pound fighter in the world is? Well, you will not find him at UFC specific sites because Fabulous Fedor Emilianenko fights out of Pride in Japan.

Dana White, President of UFC has actively pursued Fedor to sign him on contract to the UFC. Here's the problem... Dana needs to sign Fedor to a lengthy contract because of the possibility of Fedor stealing the Heavyweight belt within 2 fights is very, very possible. Unfortunately for Dana, Fedor recently re-signed a confidential contract with Pride early this year so the chance to see Fedor in the octagon will not happen in the near future.

That would be the biggest disaster for the UFC, to see a Pride fighter walk into the UFC for a 2 to 3 fight contract, snag the championship belt and return to Pride leaving the UFC without a heavyweight champion. The UFC just can't take that risk so they have gone after former Pride fighters (Heath Herring, Mirko Cro Cop & Rampage Jackson) who have NEVER achieved the highest rank in the heavyweight division in Pride.

Fedor Emilianenko fought Cro Cop to a decision in August of 2005 and still remains the current Pride heavyweight champion and undefeated in all of his Pride matches. No UFC heavyweight fighter today can say the same.

Fedor's MMA record is 25 wins with 1 loss. The loss came by way of medical stoppage due to a cut. Fedor wanted to fight on but the referee called it. His loss happened just over 6 years ago. Yes, that's right just over 6 YEARS AGO!

So, to the UFC fans, give Pride a chance and see real heavyweight talent that would crush the existing stable of heavyweight fighters in the UFC.

Pride 33 is upon us soon for February 24 with the debut of UFC bad ass, Nick Diaz fighting against the greatest lightweight fighter in the world, Takanori "The Fireball Kid" Gomi. Sean Sherk has nothing on Gomi...Nothing!

Here is more on the Greatest Fighter in the World - Fedor Emilianenko

Tim Sylvia's Rubber Right Arm

Tim "The Maine-iac" Sylvia is set to fight Randy "The Natural" Couture on March 3rd for the UFC Heavyweight Championship at UFC 68.

Lately, Tim has been fighting smart and safe with his last two fights going to decision which has Randy's panties up in a bunch so much that the old man thinks he has a chance against the giant.

I have included my favorite Tim Sylvia video clip that just happens to be when he was locked into a vicious arm bar by Frank Mir who was successful that night in snapping Sylvia's right arm while also collecting the Heavyweight belt from him at UFC 48.

This video is not for the squeamish... trust me.

UFC Videos Update

As usual, Zuffa is doing its rounds to knockout sites that host copyright material of their fights. Just so you know, we here at MMA Fever do not host the videos, we link to them from other sites so when Zuffa, Huffas and Puffas on other sites hosting their material, they blow the videos down.

As with any fight, you just don't walk away when you get hit for the first time. You stay in there and wear your opponent down until they are defenceless which, is what we intend to do here at MMA Fever by relocating the downed videos.

Fortunately, we still have the Cro Cop Sanchez clip which, may or may not be standing by the end of day today however, we will continue to deliver fresh content for all MMA fans to satisfy their fever. Stay connected and check back for updates often.

Huerta Vs. Halverson Controversial Fight Video

Halverson complained that Huerta kneed him in the head when he was down however, Huerta said in his UFC 67 post-fight interview that he kneed him in the shoulder. You be the judge!

*** Sorry MMA Fever Fans, Zuffa killed this video so in its place, enjoy the UFC 67 match up with Terry Martin & Jorge Rivera... dont blink 'cause it's a 14-second knockout ***

Quinton "Rampage" Jackson Vs. Marvin Eastman UFC 67 Video

MMA Fever fans have been relentless with asking me for the Rampage, Eastman UFC 67 fight. Rampage admitted afterwards that he had some ring rust and usually gets into it in the 7-8th minute as he is used to Pride 10-minute rounds. Regardless, welcome to the UFC Rampage!

*** Sorry, still working on finding this video for you ***

Here is a link that shows Round 1 although, Rampage KO'ed Eastman in Round 2.

Here is Rampage's first loss to Eastman almost 7 years ago:

Anderson Silva Submits Travis Lutter Video

MMA Fever fans, here it is... a quality video clip of Anderson Silva and Travis Lutter at UFC 67.

Subscribe to MMA Fever - Are you down with the sickness? by Email

Here it is...hopefully for a while!

I have two of the fights that led up to Anderson's third fight. Honestly, if you ask anyone who saw Silva and Lutter fight, it was not even close to the excitement of the first two.

Check it yourself!

Anderson "The Spider" Silva's debut in the UFC against Chris Leben

Here is the now famous Muay Thai clinch that took the sense of smell away from Rich Franklin along with his UFC Middleweight Championship belt.

UFC 67 Aftermath

Boring….

Anderson Silva vs. Travis Lutter
How could Lutter not make weight? No dedication I suppose? Stupidity I suppose?

Regardless Lutter showed that the Spyder Silva is beatable. Lutter should have put this fight away in the first round. Lutter mounted Silva and hailed down shots to Silva’s head near the end of the first round and I thought the fight was over. A poor attempted arm bar from Lutter allowed Silva to escape. Lutter is one of the best arm bar practitioners in the game however this attempt was ridiculous and weak.

In round two Silva applied a triangle choke for two minutes to Lutter head and Lutter tapped. What ended the fight was Silva throwing elbows to Lutter’s head while Lutter was in the triangle choke.

Silva was excited about this win however this fight showed he can be beat. He can be beat by taking him to the ground something Franklin did not attempt.

Unfortunately Lutter must have been tired trying to make weight for this fight which may have explained that feeble attempt at an arm bar. I hate to give this guy an excuse however I would like to see another fight between these two.

Bottom line is Silva is not all that. Someone teach him English please.

Mirko Cro Cop vs. Eddie Sanchez
It was great to see Mirko in the UFC. Hats off to Mirko and Dana White for signing this Croatian fighter.

The crowd in attendance loved him and I am sure the PPV viewers loved him as well.

The fight was not great however it was more of a feeling of what is to come from this Croatian killer.

Eddie Sanchez lasted to the second round before the fight was stopped by TKO. I saw a questionable note from NBC sports that this fight stoppage was questionable. I disagree as someone had to stop the rape of Eddie by Mirko. Eddie was mounted and taking shots to his head and he had little defense. Eddie was over and he was lucky to last his long.

Mirko will destroy Silvia or Couture which ever comes first. There was a funny comment made to Couture before the fight saying what a good time to come back to the Heavy weight division as the camera was on Mirko. Couture attempted to laugh it off.

Quentin Jackson vs. Marvin Eastman
Well what can you say? Quentin got his revenge in a somewhat boring fight.

Jackson was nervous and it showed. Jackson mentioned he was nervous after the fight

Uppercuts by Jackson ended the fight and Jackson’s commentary after the fight was stellar.

Scott Smith vs. Patrick Cote
Drug tests before the fight confirmed Patrick Cote is retarded.

Round two saw Cote landing a punch that rocked Smith however Cote never followed up. Cote should have went for the kill but failed to do so.

This fight went to the judges and Cote won by unanimous decision. Cote deserved to win his fight.

The best part of this fight was Cote being booed by the fans and Cote acknowledging it.
"Thanks also to everyone who is booing me right now! I'm going to be back and then you can come back and boo me again!"

Frankie Edgar vs. Tyson Griffin
This was the best fight of the night.

Did you see that Knee bar that Griffin applied to Edgar? Griffin hyper extended that leg for a minute and I cannot believe that Edgar did not tap.

Edgar is a champ and won by unanimous decision. I cannot believe that Edgar he did not tap out.

Terry Martin vs. Jorge Rivera
Two punches and this fight was over. Jorge please retire and take your soft chin with you.

John Halverson Vs. Roger Huerta
Halverson was complaining that he was kneed in the face. However replays shows this was not the case.
Huerta goes 2 and 0 in UFC.

Sam Hoger Vs. Lyoto Machida
Lyoto Machida Wins by Unanimous Decision at 5:00 in the 3rd round

Diego Saraieva Vs. Dustin Hazelett
Dustin Hazelett Wins by Unanimous Decision at 5:00 in the 3rd round

Cro Cop Vs. Eddie Sanchez UFC 67 Video

Cro Cop Video Highlight

As soon as I get my fingers on the Cro Cop - Sanchez UFC 67 video, I will post it immediately. What can I say, Cro Cop stole the show! He was very impressive, he came to fight in shape and clearly dominated Eddie Sanchez. The saving grace for Eddie is that he only got clipped by one high left Cro Cop kick. Other than that, he's lucky to get get grounded and pounded in the first round by Mirko instead of receiving a second devastating left high kick.

Cro Cop really is the MOST exciting heavyweight in the UFC today!

Meanwhile, check out the Cro Cop career video clip:

Cro Cop Speaks

UFC.com has a video interview with Mirko Cro Cop and Eddie Sanchez that was recently added to their site. It looks like Cro Cop has taken the time to learn the UFC rules of fighting as it shows Cro Cop in the octagon with referee Big John McCarthy showing him the UFC "ropes".

Funny, I don't think Heath Herring even bothered with attempting to understand UFC rules as they are different from Pride FC in some critical aspects of the style and strategy a fighter is allowed to employ.

Cro Cop looks ready for action tonight and I appreciate his candid thoughts on his fight with Eddie Sanchez. Cro Cop says, "Eddie Sanchez is a good fighter without loss and he showed guts and courage to accept this fight and I respect him. I will do my best in the fight".

UFC 67 Drinking Game

I gathered this from Sherdog Forums from a creative and intuitive UFC fan who noticed repeated sound bites used from Mike Goldberg and Joe Rogan whenever they provide color commentary and analysis of the UFC fights.

Is it Worth Buying UFC 67 Now?

Seriously, that's a good question that is stirring in the minds of many people who were amped up to watch a Middleweight Championship title fight which, can go to a maximum of 5 rounds instead of three.

Well, now that the fight is a Non-Title fight, the most rounds this one can go is the standard three. Are you feeling a bit jipped and now you want to step in the cage with Lutter (or Loser) yourself for two hours to beat the 2 pounds out of him?

I know I do but back to the question, is it worth buying UFC 67? The way I see it, just to see Cro Cop and Rampage fenced inside the octagon will be worth the PPV buy for me. Even though it's not a title fight anymore, Silva is still going to bring his intensity, flair and excitement that the fans crave and give Lutter the beating that he deserves for pulling a bone-headed stunt like missing weight.

If your answer to the question is an emphatic 'NO' then I have a little something for you folks living in North America. I have a list of sports bars in the U.S. and Canada that will broadcast UFC 67 at your local watering hole for free.

So, if you need a valid excuse to tell your wife that you must spend the evening at Hooters because you are saving the family money that you think you shouldn't now spend on the event, I am sure she will understand... this time. Or just make it a Hooters family night and watch the fight. (Yeah, right!)

UFC 67 Weigh-In Video

Check out the UFC 67 Weigh-in that shows Travis Lutter missing the mark for the UFC Middleweight Championship title at UFC - All or Nothing.

Click here for the UFC 67 Weigh-In Video

Lutter weighed in first at 187 Lbs and had 2 hours to lose two pounds. Any professional fighter can drop 2 Lbs in two hours. Did Lutter not make the weight on purpose because he was scared or was it his strategy to put the Championship title pressure behind him and just fight Silva man to man without the pressure?

You decide MMA Fever fans!

For more details, check out UFC.com for the post weigh-in summary

Lutter Comes in Too Heavy at UFC 67 Weigh-In

Lutter comes in half a pound over and now this is a non-title fight against Anderson Silva. Lutter must have felt the pressure and my suspicion is that this was his intention from the very start. It's not hard to lose 2 pounds in 2 hours, especially when fighters drop weight for a living. What a chicken shit Lutter is for missing out on the biggest fight of his career where he had the chance to become the next UFC Middleweight Champion.

Lutter is the TOOL of the day!

This just in from Sherdog.com:

Middleweight UFC challenger Travis Lutter failed to make weight in his final attempt Friday evening, managing to shed just one half pound in the two hours afforded to him by the Nevada State Athletic Commission.

As a result Lutter, whose final weight was 186.5 pounds, is docked 10 percent of his purse, NSAC executive director Keith Kizer told Sherdog.com, and will face UFC champion Anderson Silva in a non-title affair Saturday night at the Mandalay Bay.

This is the second time a challenger for a UFC belt has failed to make weight. Joe Riggs was unable to make 170 pounds when he faced champion Matt Hughes in Nov. 2005, thus rendering that bout a three-round non-title contest.

Terry Martin, who also overshot the middleweight constraint, managed to drop the one pound necessary to make his fight versus Jorge Rivera official.

UFC newcomer Mirko Filipovic (223) showed little emotion as he stepped off the scales and looked into the eyes of his opponent, Eddie Sanchez (229).

Quinton Jackson looked a lean 205, two pounds heavier than Marvin Eastman, who handed the tough Memphis native his first professional loss back in June 2000.

UFC 67 Weigh-in Results:

Travis Lutter (186.5) vs. Anderson Silva (185)
Eddie Sanchez (229) vs. MirkoCro Cop” Filipovic (223)
Marvin Eastman (203) vs. Quinton Jackson (205)
John Halverson (155) vs. Roger Huerta (156)
Patrick Cote (185) vs. Scott Smith (185)
Terry Martin (186) vs. Jorge Rivera (185)
Frank Edgar (154) vs. Tyson Griffin (156)
Sam Hoger (206) vs. Ryoto Machida (203)
Diego Saraiva (155) vs. Dustin Hazelett (156)

Will Sanchez Get "Salmoned" by Cro Cop?

There's a real good chance that Cro Cop will Salmon Eddie Sanchez. Too bad for Sean Salmon, I mean, he'll forever be remembered as that dude that got KTFO by Rashad Evans. I suppose with me using his last name as a new verb for "Knocked The F*ck Out" doesn't help matters much does it?

Anyway, it is what it is and it's too bad Cro Cop has to deliver the pain to what appears to be a really nice and genuine guy.

Here's a video clip of Eddie Sanchez speaking which may very well be the last words uttered from him after Cro Cop is done with him.

Good Luck and good bye Eddie, if anybody needs luck the most, it definitely will be you tomorrow night.

Reminder - UFC 67 Delivered in High Definition

For the first time, UFC will broadcast it's PPV event in High Definition. So, if you rushed out to buy that Plasma or LCD recently to watch the Bears trounce the Colts, be sure to test out your new set-up tomorrow night to see some real action.

Superbowls are notorious for being Super bores. Hey, at least the little purple guy will be there at half-time, Prince that is ;)

I really can't wait for tomorrow night so once again, to wet your appetite and bring down (or up) your Fever, here is the official UFC 67 Preview...

UFC 67 Picks by Greg Clark

Sorry for the delay, I had lots on my plate at work so without further adieu, here are my UFC 67 picks:

Anderson Silva 17-4-0 Vs. Travis Lutter 12-3-0
Middleweight Championship bout
*** Update: This is now a Non-Title Middleweight Championship event as Lutter Weighs in over the limit ***

Well, I can't say much more than my previous post that Travis Lu
