Do you want to know who the greatest pound for pound fighter in the world is? Well, you will not find him at UFC specific sites because Fabulous Fedor Emilianenko fights out of Pride in Japan.
Dana White, President of UFC has actively pursued Fedor to sign him on contract to the UFC. Here's the problem... Dana needs to sign Fedor to a lengthy contract because of the possibility of Fedor stealing the Heavyweight belt within 2 fights is very, very possible. Unfortunately for Dana, Fedor recently re-signed a confidential contract with Pride early this year so the chance to see Fedor in the octagon will not happen in the near future.
That would be the biggest disaster for the UFC, to see a Pride fighter walk into the UFC for a 2 to 3 fight contract, snag the championship belt and return to Pride leaving the UFC without a heavyweight champion. The UFC just can't take that risk so they have gone after former Pride fighters (Heath Herring, Mirko Cro Cop & Rampage Jackson) who have NEVER achieved the highest rank in the heavyweight division in Pride.
Fedor Emilianenko fought Cro Cop to a decision in August of 2005 and still remains the current Pride heavyweight champion and undefeated in all of his Pride matches. No UFC heavyweight fighter today can say the same.
Fedor's MMA record is 25 wins with 1 loss. The loss came by way of medical stoppage due to a cut. Fedor wanted to fight on but the referee called it. His loss happened just over 6 years ago. Yes, that's right just over 6 YEARS AGO!
So, to the UFC fans, give Pride a chance and see real heavyweight talent that would crush the existing stable of heavyweight fighters in the UFC.
Pride 33 is upon us soon for February 24 with the debut of UFC bad ass, Nick Diaz fighting against the greatest lightweight fighter in the world, Takanori "The Fireball Kid" Gomi. Sean Sherk has nothing on Gomi...Nothing!

I thought Fedor singed just a 1 fight contract extention? So I don't think he is tied down too long.
ReplyDeleteHere is the word from MMA Weekly:
ReplyDelete"Fedor Emelianenko, the #1 ranked heavyweight fighter in the world, and Pride Fighting Championships have come to an agreement on terms of a contract extension that will keep the promotion’s heavyweight champion on their roster for the foreseeable future. Pride officially announced the extension on their web site.
Details of the contract were not disclosed, but it was seen as critical for the venerable Japanese promotion to make sure that they re-signed Emelianenko, especially in light of the recent defection of Pride Open Weight Grand Prix champion Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic to the Ultimate Fighting Championship."

Pride wouldn't gamble on loosing Fedor. He is their most prized and coveted resource.
The only way we could see Fedor in the UFC is if Zuffa made a play to buy Pride BUT... that isn't gonna happen like all the other sites say it is.
No way!
...and too bad for the fans, like me and you who would like to see the best in the world actually fight, the best in the world.
Well, maybe someday when Fedor retires then decides to come back after one year of retirement and fight again when he's 42 years old for the UFC Heavyweight title.
No, wait, sorry, that's Randy Couture's path to oblivion - LOL
Cheers!
