Urijah Faber - You-Rye-Ahhhhhh

Who is this guy and why should you know???

Urijah is the real deal. He currently fights for World Extreme Cagefighting in their Featherweight division (145 lb). I know, I rag on the lightweights quite a bit but this dude has "the stuff" and is a real joy to watch.

The California Kid as he is called is currently 19-1 with his only loss happening at the end of the fist of UFC Lightweight, Tyson Griffin almost two years ago.

Don't be too surprised to see Urijah Faber jump up to the Lightweight division (155 lb) of the UFC in the not so distant future to add more intensity to an already intense weight division... yes, I am now a Lightweight convert.

Check out Urijah's recent win against Chance Farrar at WEC 28 and I am sure you will know why he deserves a whole lot more attention from the MMA community and the UFC in particular.

  2. besides the sign of the "real" deal isn't exceptional ground or stand up it's the combination of the two. and while his ground game is obviously good his stand up seemed out of control and amateurish..

  3. I've seen this kid fight for some time now and he's good agaisnt the WEC roster(which sucks). His stand up is too sloppy and turns to the fetal position once someone makes contact with his face. They keep putting him against nobodys.

  4. For sure, WEC is full of cans but that isn't Faber's fault.

It would be interesting to see him up against fighters of his caliber and greater in the UFC.

  5. Didn't Uriah used to fight in the UFC early on in his career? I seem to remember watching him fight some Japanese dude circa 2002-3. It was one of the best fights I've ever seen in the sport. Uriah IS one of the best fighters out there. His record of 19-1 doesn't take into account his heavy number of other MMA fights.

  6. It doesn't say anything of him fighting in UFC. I guess the closest hes gotten to it was fighting UFC's Tyson Griffin and you saw how that came out. hehe
