Matt Hamill - Tool of the Day

Without question, Matt Hamill is a Tool.

This shouldn't be a surprise to anyone because Hamill trains with the Hall of Famer Tool, Tito Ortiz in the Team Punishment camp so Hamill is bound to learn a few "Techniques of the Tool" from Tito.

So why is Matt now bestowed with the dishonorable distinction of being MMA Fever's "Tool of the Day" well...

Good guy Hamill said in his post-fight interview after his decision loss to Michael Bisping, "He beat me fair and square". Everyone and their mother said that he was a class act and worthy of being the next President of the United States when Georgy Jr. is done.

Here's a post from Matt "The Tool" Hamill off of his own site which contradicts his good guy statements at UFC 75:

"10/04/07Wow! Let me just say... I am in shock. First, I get hosed by two judges in London and now the much anticipated rematch has evaporated in front of my eyes. I'm starting to feel like the deck is stacked against me. Duff, my trainer/manager told me he thought something like this would happen when he read Bisping's statement on the internet. He said it looked like Bisping was looking for a way out of the rematch. I posted a statement about my knee surgery on 9/25 so everyone would know it was minor, and I would be ready by mid December. I didn't think six weeks was that long of a wait, apparently, Bisping and the UFC did. I am so hungry to fight. I had surgery to add wrestling back to my arsenal. I fought Bisping's fight at UFC 75 and I was looking forward to fighting my fight in the rematch. I feel honored that so many people have told me I won the fight in London. It makes the decision easier for me to accept. I want to fight... I want to fight ASAP! Hopefully the UFC will schedule a fight for me soon. I would like to fight in December or January and hopefully Bisping after that... If Bisping has the guts to do it again."

The only people getting hosed are those people who believe in him as a good guy.

If someone should be pissed about poor judging, Thiago Tavares (decision loss to Tyson Griffin @ UFC 76) deserves to be.

Here's something you might not have known about Matt Hamill..

  1. Wouldn't you start to believe you got hosed by the judges if 90% of the UFC.com population believed so (the poll). Every time someone meets him now, the conversation probably goes something like this. "Man, I feel for you, those asshole judges"
I've never heard of a fighter willingly giving himself enough time to heal after a surgery. Well maybe the can Couture.

  2. LOL - I'm not a converted Couture fan. Tough to be one when I'm an Iceman fan.

We all know that Chuck knocked the fuck out of Randy not once, but twice and sent him into retirement.

So Couture comes back and fights Sylvia for 5 rounds to decision then fights a flash in the pan nobody even heard of 6 months ago.

When Couture fights Big Nog and wins... THEN, I'll consider wearing an Affliction T-Shirt and that's about it.

    **************

Hamill is an attention junkie who is a one-dimensioanl fighter that doesn't deserve to fight Bisping again.

Hamill should be fighting the Sean Salmon's of the LHW division.... some would call them "Cans"

At least this way we can stop hearing Matt "The Tool" Hamill stop whining and bitching about losing his fight because it was Hamill's fight to lose and he did it well.

    :)

  3. An Affliction shirt?
Nasty (I just regurgitated some pizza)
Why did you take down your "the can" post?
It was your funniest one and it still reflects your opinion (please repost, I miss it).

Why didn't you touch upon any of my arguments. Sounds like you just have pure hate, for the sake of hate, on the guy.

  4. Greg... Are you f*cking blind? C'mon man, Hamill got robbed and lost the worst hometown decision I have ever seen in the UFC (I've seen them all since UFC2). Hamill beat down Bisping all three rounds and Bisping did nothing to win that fight. Hamill should be outraged and he'll squash Bisping whenever Hamill gets his rematch.

Obviously you're not f*cking blind because I do agree with you that Tavares did beat Griffin... at least that fight was closer, but Tavares should have won the decision.

  5. I think calling Hamill "tool of the day" for him finally figuring out he got the crap end of the stick by the judges is a bit unfair and biased to say the least. I guess we can add Greg to the two judges and a couple of other Bisping nuthuggers who say the fight that way. Even the UK fans were booing the decision. Hamill was classy in defeat. Maybe he went home and watched the fight and saw the same thing most people saw- Hamill dominating Bisping. Then the UFC screws him on the rematch. I think the least of his worries is this blog calling him a tool for October 21st. Can't you just keep Matt Hughs as the reliable tool for the remainder of 2007?

  6. WoW... Some Hamill nuthugging tea-baggers huh?

Effective striking is scored higher than anything else when the 10-point must system is concerned. I didn't make up that rule, it made for us by the state of New Jersy in 2001.

    Here is the official...

    "13:46-24A.13 Judging

    (a) All bouts will be evaluated and scored by three judges.

    (b) The 10-Point Must System will be the standard system of scoring a
bout. Under the 10-Point Must Scoring System, 10 points must be awarded
to the winner of the round and nine points or less must be awarded to
the loser, except for a rare even round, which is scored (10-10).

    (c) Judges shall evaluate mixed martial arts techniques, such as
effective striking, effective grappling, control of the fighting area,
    effective aggressiveness and defense.

    (d) Evaluations shall be made in the order in which the techniques
appear in (c) above, giving the most weight in scoring to effective
striking, effective grappling, control of the fighting area and
    effective aggressiveness and defense.

    (e) Effective striking is judged by determining the total number of
legal heavy strikes landed by a contestant.

    (f) Effective grappling is judged by considering the amount of
successful executions of a legal takedown and reversals. Examples of
factors to consider are take downs from standing position to mount
position, passing the guard to mount position, and bottom position
fighters using an active, threatening guard.

    (g) Fighting area control is judged by determining who is dictating the
pace, location and position of the bout. Examples of factors to consider
are countering a grappler's attempt at takedown by remaining standing
    and legally striking ; taking down an opponent to force a ground fight;
creating threatening submission attempts, passing the guard to achieve
    mount, and creating striking opportunities.

    (h) Effective aggressiveness means moving forward and landing a legal
    strike.

    (i) Effective defense means avoiding being struck, taken down or
reversed while countering with offensive attacks.

    (j) The following objective scoring criteria shall be utilized by the
    judges when scoring a round;

    1. A round is to be scored as a 10-10 Round when both contestants
appear to be fighting evenly and neither contestant shows clear
    dominance in a round;

    2. A round is to be scored as a 10-9 Round when a contestant wins by a
close margin, landing the greater number of effective legal strikes,
    grappling and other maneuvers;

    3. A round is to be scored as a 10-8 Round when a contestant
overwhelmingly dominates by striking or grappling in a round.

    4. A round is to be scored as a 10-7 Round when a contestant totally
dominates by striking or grappling in a round.

    (k) Judges shall use a sliding scale and recognize the length of time
the fighters are either standing or on the ground, as follows:

    1. If the mixed martial artists spent a majority of a round on the
    canvas, then:
    i. Effective grappling is weighed first; and
ii. Effective striking is then weighed

    2. If the mixed martial artists spent a majority of a round standing,
    then:
    1. Effective striking is weighed first; and
    2. Effective grappling is then weighed

    3. If a round ends with a relatively even amount of standing and canvas
fighting, striking and grappling are weighed equally."

Bisping, for lack of a better term, "out boxed" Hamill which was the difference in the scoring of the fight.

Hey Nacho, I tried calling Hamill but the bastard wouldn't return my calls... or didn't hear them.

Hughes is an asshole, yes... a tool he can be on occasion based on his behaviour however, I do respect Hughes for being a dominant champion @ 170 so he gets a pass.

Tito Ortiz on the other had is in the Hall of Fame for Tools.

Why get one's panties up in a bunch over a guy who calls himself "The Hammer" which, also happens to be a TOOL!
