UFC 75 Hand Grenade

I don't get a chance to impart my MMA wisdom with the masses too often these days due to W-O-R-K... however, I am alive and kicking the shit out of most of my UFC predictions.

UFC 75 Champion vs. Champion kicked some serious ass especially for it being free in North America and anyone who can rig a satellite receiver to steal the signal over the air.

The fight of the night, hands down belonged to Marcus "The Irish Hand Grenade" Davis. I know you sack suckers of Rampage & Hendo or whomever the flavour of the day/week/month will chime in like a little bitch as usual and quite predictable.

Rampage and Hendo went exactly as I predicted, back and forth action, lots of stand-up and wrestling but not much more leading up to a nail-biting decision seeing Quinton Jackson back in possession of the UFC Light Heavyweight strap along with the Pride defunct belt that nobody really gives a shit about anymore anyway.

What the fuck is everyone ragging on Bisping for anyway?

He won the fight, fair and fucking square by judges decision. Unless you are one of the three judges deciding the result of the Bisping/Hamill fight then shut the fuck up about it and move on with your shallow life.

Why the fuck are people pissed about Bisping's post-fight behaviour?

I like it and think it's great for the sport of MMA... it separates the righteous pussies who did not go 15 minutes in the octagon from the real MMA fans who appreciate that Bisping out boxed the dumb fuck ball-peen hammer Hamill.

FUCK THE UNWRITTEN TAKEDOWN CONTEST VICTORIES.

Hat tip to the judges for saying "Fuck You" to Lay and Pray fighting.

Seriously, you all have come to believe that the takedown can "solely" win you the round on points. Well retard, so can punches to the opponents face as this is the standard way judges decide the outcome of boxing matches which came before MMA matches.

Hamill was atrocious with his strikes and seemed he couldn't get it together unless Hamill was Laying on top of Bisping (which I am sure Hamill thoroughly enjoyed for his own personal reasons) giving him a pounding from the side with his right fist.

Bisping fought an "evasive" yet tactical fight which saw him out strike Hamill for the split decision victory... DONE!

Houston Alexander...

I'll steal a line from Joe Rogan, "That guy is my hero!". Yes folks, if you are an MMA fan then you should be delighted with the attitude and the fury that Houston Alexander brings with him into the octagon like a breath of fresh air.

Shit, Alexander will step to and trade with anyone and he has the power and the BALLS to actually be a champion in the LHW division IF... he proves to have an iron chin. You see, fighting with intensity is one thing but fighting with what appears to be wreckless abandon is entirely an "All-In" Texas hold'em risk that can bring you riches or a wired jaw along with Tylenol 3's for the rest of your life to ease the pain.

Cro Cop and Kongo. What can I say, this was the only fight I picked on the UFC 75 card that I lost... that's right, I actually know what the fuck I'm saying 70% of the time as that is my success rate for fight predictions this year... the Year of the Upset.

Anyway, Cro Cop was terrible. He didn't project himself as the usual force that he is in the ring. Kongo is a K-1 trained fighter just like Cro Cop so logic told me that ring experience would be the deciding factor against a 6'4" mofo with lightning fast kicks just like the Croatian.

Not so... Cro Cop should have tooled Kongo but he didn't or rather, he couldn't. Most likely it was a combination of skills improvement for Kongo and the fact that Cro Cop's fight plan or strategy or whatever the fuck you what to call it for Mirko is... well.... tired and transparent.

Here's a prediction... Cro Cop will come out for his next fight and stand up against the opponent and try to left leg chop the guy to set up the Left High Kick to end the fight via TKO. If that doesn't work and the opponent decides to lay on the ground then Cro Cop will fight for full mount then ground and pound.

Yawn... sorry, I got tired writing that out because Mirko's fighting style is also predicable and tired which is why I updated the MMA Fever Poll of the week (see below and vote!).

So, I went 8-1 with my predictions... so what.

Did I get lucky or did the fighters get lucky?

You decide.

  1. I agree. Cro Cop is predictable. He needs to get out of croatia and train here in the states.

  2. 8-1 in your fight predictions, and a similar record in your points of fact in this post. Mostly right on as always, but settle down with the Bisping love. He lost (totally knew he lost too judging by his reaction when he heard the scores) and then acted like a punk talking shit. Whatever. Any asshole can run his mouth, takes a much bigger badass to admit he got beat which is what Hamill managed to do. If I wanted to watch idiots run their mouths I could watch boxing or football or any other sport out there, but MMA for whatever reason seems to attract guys who are pretty level headed in their take on the world. I mean I love it when Rampage or Houston gets all pumped, but those guys back that up by telling it like it is. Bisping... not so much.

The best you can say for Bisping is that he got EXPOSED (nice footwork Michael, chortle snort) as a guy who is in for some serious beatdowns unless he moves to 185 and even then, can you imagine the beating he'd take against a technically sound striker like A.S? Jeebus. Better he just shuts up and wins the rematch that we all know is coming against Hamill (And btw...of course Hamill's striking looked bad, his name is MATT HAMILL. duh).

Otherwise, way to leave the W-O-R-K for tomorrow. Good stuff.

  3. Thanks Pete.

You're right, Bisping has much work to do to develop himself for the heightened skill level of the LHW stable.

I've heard the talk of him moving to 185 however, he'll still run into some serious contenders there too such as Franklin, Okami, Silva, Martin Kampmann, Nate Marquardt et al.

The same can be said about Hamill though too as he didn't have much more than his usual takedowns along with the telegraphed looping right fist.

    In regards to the scoring...

If Pride rules were in effect, Hamill won without debate.

The 10-point MUST system is flawed for MMA because there are only 3 rounds to score (non-title fight) which does not give the collective picture of how the overall fight transpired.

Hamill owned Bisping in the first round.

Bisping eked out round 2 and three according to the judges and also, my opinion of what went down.

Bisping won the 10-point MUST system judges decision.

On the official record, Bisping wins and Hamill loses. 'Nuff said.

I was pleased with Hamill's development since his last UFC bout. Looks like good things are happening up on Big Bear with Tito and the gang.

Hamill needs to work on his BJJ to compliment his dominant Wrestling skills a la Matt Hughes. An arm bar, Kimura, Americana, rear naked choke or even something more advanced like an arm triangle or a leg triangle would round out Hamill's ground game and make him a threat at 205.

Hamill should focus his game on the ground and leave the pugilist work alone for now.
