Strikeforce announced today that Jan "The Giant" Nortje (1-5) will be the opponent for Bob Sapp (9-2-1) in the main event of "Strikeforce At The Dome" on Feb. 23 at the Tacoma Dome in Tacoma, Washington.
Towering at the 6-foot-11 and weighing close to 330 pounds, Nortje is a rare competitor large enough to match Sapp's NFL-lineman size. The South African-born Nortje is familiar with Sapp, as the two were training partners in 2002.
"I’m extremely excited" Nortje said in a statement. "I’ve always seen Bob get big opportunities so I think it’s my turn to show what I can do against him."
Although Nortje carries an extensive resume in combat sports, he hasn't fared well in MMA. His one win was in 2002 and all five of his other opponents have finished him.
